Re: Week 43 : Porto Alegre (Entry List)

HUGE win for Gastão! 7th straight win too. It seems he is finally stepping up to the expectations!!! He has to be one of the biggest favourites now for the tournament. Hope he's not too tired for tomorrow...

Both players played some great stuff. Gastão with more confidence today. Did a tweener too! Great win for Elias, playing the best tennis of his career. Vamos!

Forza Julito Silva! Good stuff by this clay Challengers veteran fighter, could be one of the last tournaments of his career considering both his age and performance during the season but still maybe will stick around. Hope he can make a good run and beat Greul.

I have to tip my hat off to Gastão today. I really love him, but I must confess I wanted Thiemo to win today. Just shows how confident Elias is right now, that he can go toe-to-toe with a real big guy considering his height, and come out on top. Little magician. :)

First time in ages Schoorel has won two matches in a row. He has had a difficult season.

Elias riding on the wave of winning momentum it doesn't last long.

Re: Week 43 : Porto Alegre (Entry List)

Elias is one win away from becoming the number 2 portuguese player. I don't remember the last time that neither Rui and Fred weren't (at least one of them) in the first 2 places of portuguese ranks, but I must imagine something like 10 (ten!!!) years time, back when Nuno Marques was stil playing!

It's kind of sad to see this 2 players in huge decline, but at least we know our future is assure. Not only with João and Gastão but also with some juniors players, having a world top 10 in that age sector.

8 years. Since October 11 of 2004. Leonardo Tavares (429º) and Diogo Rocha (648º) were the 2 portuguese best ranked.

Elias won against Odesnik 6-4 7-5. Without impressing but amazingly solid. What a Challenger can do. So much difference in his service games, saved all the break points, amazing. Into the semi-finals where is the favourite against Hidalgo who is playing a really poor tennis recently. And is the new portuguese no 2, passing Frederico Gil. What two amazing weeks for Elias who can now dream with a presence on the Challenger Masters in Brazil.

Greul def. Schoorel 7-5 2-6 6-4

Greul led 7-5 *2-0 and disappeared. Ever since then Schoorel was the better player, but his horrible return kept Simon alive. Thomas played poor service game at *4-5 in the decider with two unforced errors from him and two great winners from Greul (outstanding passing shot and the first return winner in the match).

Re: Week 43 : Porto Alegre (Entry List)

Beautiful backhand passing shot from Simon in a defensive position to win the match. Simon stepped it up the final game and took it.

Thomas should have won the third set. Blew his opportunity the 3 all game. His confidence level still isn't where it needs to be but his game is improving.

Great job, Simon!
