Re: Week 43 : Porto Alegre (Entry List)

First time in ages Schoorel has won two matches in a row. He has had a difficult season.

Elias riding on the wave of winning momentum it doesn't last long.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Week 43 : Porto Alegre (Entry List)

Elias is one win away from becoming the number 2 portuguese player. I don't remember the last time that neither Rui and Fred weren't (at least one of them) in the first 2 places of portuguese ranks, but I must imagine something like 10 (ten!!!) years time, back when Nuno Marques was stil playing!

It's kind of sad to see this 2 players in huge decline, but at least we know our future is assure. Not only with João and Gastão but also with some juniors players, having a world top 10 in that age sector.

Re: Week 43 : Porto Alegre (Entry List)

Elias won against Odesnik 6-4 7-5. Without impressing but amazingly solid. What a Challenger can do. So much difference in his service games, saved all the break points, amazing. Into the semi-finals where is the favourite against Hidalgo who is playing a really poor tennis recently. And is the new portuguese no 2, passing Frederico Gil. What two amazing weeks for Elias who can now dream with a presence on the Challenger Masters in Brazil.

Hopefully Schoorel wins this thing now!

Gastão winning would also be very helpful.

Just Greul and Ramirez are way past it, it would be better for the younger generation.

Hoping for a Thomas Schoorel-Gastão Elias final!

8 years. Since October 11 of 2004. Leonardo Tavares (429º) and Diogo Rocha (648º) were the 2 portuguese best ranked.

So there was a short transition period between the retirement of Nuno Marques and the appearance of Fred and Rui.

Anyway he DID it! This is a new and symbolic step for a change in portuguese tennis. Hope it means more and good things for us! I think both of them (specially Gastão) can improve what Machado and Gil has done for national tennis.

About this tournament, RRH vs. Gastão will be the real final, IMO. Maybe Elias can take advantadge of the fact that the spaniard always needed 3 sets to win. Portuguese VAMOS LÁ to Elias!

Greul has been the best player this week. I expect him to win the title.

Schoorel looks a lot better this week than I've seen him really this entire season. His serve looks powerful again.

Re: Week 43 : Porto Alegre (Entry List)

Greul def. Schoorel 7-5 2-6 6-4

Greul led 7-5 *2-0 and disappeared. Ever since then Schoorel was the better player, but his horrible return kept Simon alive. Thomas played poor service game at *4-5 in the decider with two unforced errors from him and two great winners from Greul (outstanding passing shot and the first return winner in the match).

Tipsarevic - Berlocq The Warlocq - Ferrer

Kudla - Del Potro - Cervantes - Schwartzman - Janowicz

Cilic - McGee - Lu - Goffin - Karlovic - Majchrzak - Gasquet - Harrison - Kohlschreiber - Cecchinato

honorable mentions: Roddick - Nalbandian - Magdi Somat

Re: Week 43 : Porto Alegre (Entry List)

Beautiful backhand passing shot from Simon in a defensive position to win the match. Simon stepped it up the final game and took it.

Thomas should have won the third set. Blew his opportunity the 3 all game. His confidence level still isn't where it needs to be but his game is improving.

Great job, Simon!

Awesome first set of tennis from Rubén. 6-1 over Elias. Dictating play with his forehand.

Elias is hitting his BH a lot better now than he was at the beginning. Good defense as well. Very solid play without many mistakes.

Re: Week 43 : Porto Alegre (Entry List)

Elias seems to be out of gas, but has a lot of will. RRH also ain't not doing so much damage with his fh as in the first set.
