Re: Week 27: Panama City (Entry List)

Kendrick retired at 3-6,0*-3

Winning only 2 of 14 points in the second set so far...

Big question: injury or a BIG tank?

we will see later if he will play doubles with witten or not..

I don't know why you are so upset about, this type of stuff happens all the time. If he feels that he no longer can win the match and if by retiring he would give himself a better chance in doubles, then so be it. It is no different than players tanking a set to conserve energy for the next one.

Both are inexcusable Just bad sportsmanship.

Yes, it is bad sportmanship but the reality is it is quite common. I think most players go through it at one point or another including many of our favorite players.

BTW, I don't think it is necessary to go to a player's cheering thread and bash him (not talking to you Martijin).

Re: Week 27: Panama City (Entry List)

He deserves it. I do not like this attitude. The whole MTF freaked out because Nadal "shoved" Rosol at the net. For me this here is much more pathetic and it makes me wanna puke all the time. Nothing to do with fairplay. If he would cancelled the doubles okay, but retiring at 3-6,0-3 and playing a complete doubles match one hour later...disgusting stuff!

and please, show me some examples where that happened in the past.

Player A retired in the middle of the second set and could play a complete doubles match one hour (!) later. We should not discuss the massive tanking there from both, Witten and Kendrick. He could play the singles till the end without problems but no...no respect for his opponent and no respect in generally. Kendrick, please retire soon and make me happy. If not, please lose every single match from now. THX BRO!

Re: Week 27: Panama City (Entry List)

The last one I remembered was the Jack Sock incident at the Dallas Challenger. He had some sort of stomach injury, but did came back and play doubles later. And then there was qualifier incident not too long ago (can't remember the exact event) who retired but accepted a lucky loser spot not long after (not exactly the same thing, but still bad sportmanship). Also, there are players who retired due to dehydration/heat who came back and play doubles. We don't always know the whole truth of what happened. Sometimes, players come back to play doubles b/c they feel bad for their partner epecially if they need money (common in lower tier events).

It is not like I encourage the behavior, but if I go around telling players to retire I might have nobody to cheer for b/c nobody is perfect. If you need to express your dissatisfaction, that's fine but please do it here or somewhere outside of a player's cheering thread (afterall it is a "cheering" thread).

Good stuff from Daniel, blew a ton of SPs but didn't let it get to him and he clinched the first set in a TB.

Re: Week 27: Panama City (Entry List)

Congratulations to Daniel for defeating Russell 76, 62. You know Russell is a fighter, in always in great condition, and is playing as well as ever, so this is a very good win.

Re: Week 27: Panama City (Entry List)

Fuck you, Michael. Just how many chances did you need today, and to lose in straights. Unacceptable completely. The event is totally ruined beyond comprehension.

Re: Week 27: Panama City (Entry List)

That was an extremely tough and long match. 2:30 for straight sets. Good win for Daniel anyway, he has very good potential on clay.
