Re: India F1a

I have been keeping scores at my page at TennisIndia.Org

http://www.its.uci.edu/~jaykay/tenn-...elhi-0204.html

Depending on emails from India, I may have updates faster than at the ITF site ..

Re: India F1a

Here is the news PTI agency story on the semifinals:

Enev to clash with Qureshi in the final

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) Top seed Todor Enev (Bulgaria) and second seed Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi (Pakistan) survived first set hiccups before overpowering their respective rivals to set up a title clash in the Syndicate Bank 10,000 Dollar ITF' Futures tennis tournament here today.

Todor Enev got a scare from third seed Orest Tereshchuk (Ukraine) as he lost the first set tamely. However the top seed rallied strongly with some super display of power tennis to rattle Orest.

The third seed failed to consoldate his first set advantage as he bungled and committed far too many unforced errors to lose the next two sets and the match. Enev unleashed flurry of powerful serves and attacked his rival who virtually caved in. The Bulgarian won 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.

For second seed Lahore based Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, his love affair with the DLTA courts continues. Qureshi warded off a stiff challange from fifth seed Alexey Kedriouk of Kazakhstan to strom into his second successive final on this venue. The Pakistani had beaten Harsh Mankad to win the previous edition of the tournament here in last December and today he battled it out for 115 minutes to oust giant killer Kazhak.

Alexey, who had beaten Indian Davis cupper Rohan Bopanna, started in style as he surprised Qureshi by winning the first set. Qureshi started tentatively and managed to survive three break points in his first game to hold on to his serve. The tall Pakistani then broke his rival in the sixth game but twice double faulted in his own ninth game to squandered the advantage. In the tie breaker Alexey build up 5-0 lead in no time to win the set 7-6(7-5).

Rattled by this set back, a recharged Qureshi staged a fine rally as he outlasted his rival. Qureshi's serve and volley tactics unsettled Alexey. He mixed up his game with powerful ground strokes for which Lanky Khazk had no answer. Qureshi broke Alexey in the third game and that was enough for him to win the second set and draw parity 1-1.

The second seed broke Alexey in his first game of the third set. The third seed had a chance to break his rival in the fourth game, when Qureshi was down 15-40 on his own serve, but he muffed up some easy returns and the chance for parity. There was no looking back for the second seed as he raced to win the set and match at 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-4.
