I voted for Sampras/Courier 1995 Australian Open QuarterFinals.

Amazing how Sampras could dig down deep enough to win that match, amidst all the personal trauma and grief he was feeling. During the Australian Open this year, on ESPN2 they aired a 15 minute documentary on that match and everything that happened with Tim Gullikson. It was really touching.

King Juan Carlos is back to take the crown!

Re: Poll #2: What is the best 5-setter classic among these?

I voted Agassi/Ivanisevic because it was an exciting match between a great server and a great returner, played on the biggest stage, and a very emotional first major victory for Andre in the most improbable of the four grand slams.

This year's Safin/Federer is a phenomenal match too.

For me it's Safin/Federer this year, Roger has been deemed "unbeatable" and who else but Marat to take him down after 7 or so matchpoints (and saving one himself!)?

I've only seen a handful of those, but out of the ones I saw that one was the greatest.

Mardy Fish for president.

Re: Poll #2: What is the best 5-setter classic among these?

I'm torn.

I love seeing references to older players/matches/confrontations and I just recently saw a nice piece on the Sampras/Courier 95 AO QF. I had forgotten much of the issues swirling around the match. Both were in the heart of their careers...and playing very, very good tennis. Even though I wasn't a Pete fan, he had my heart that day.

I think the Federer/Sampras match at Wimby will go down as a classic...turning point. Flashes of brilliance from the new, the fighting spirit of the old...still wanting his favorite trophy.

And of course, the recent Federer/Marat AO SF is so fresh...and oh so memorable.

Darn it, Billabong, why'd you have to make it so hard?

Since I'm a sucker for sentimentality...and the old guys...I'll actually vote for Sampras/Courier.

I love my girls.
