Re: Just curious...what religion are you?

god or religion itself isnt the issue.

the churches and people who use it for power is the issue.

As much as it pains me to say it, Topspindoctor is correct.
well the bible doesnt say the earth is 6000 yrs, it say where was different times on earth way way b/4 us

"And God called the light day, and the darkness He called night, and it was evening and it was morning, one day"

one day doesnt mean 24 hours, it means a Certain period have gone, the times, distances and dimensions of today do not match that of the old world.

well at least thats what i know..

Hug it out as long as it takes, people

"People were created to be loved
things were created to be used.
The reason why the world is in chaos is because things are being loved, and people are being used."

Nope, it's just six days. I saw a physicist explained in TV how the expansion of universe has meant that that time also expanded. What was six days after the big bang, is actually billions of years. And human being came to Earth just recently. So this is just the sixth day of Genesis, that physicist even showed that mathematically. So God's rest day is still ahead.

He doesn't punish the wicked (Hitler, Pol Pot, Mugabe weren't punished, why is that?) etc. There was nobody who could part seas. The Earth is obviously not 6000 years old. I am not a religious guy, but I think you have to look at the stories in the Bible as metaphores, not as real stories. Obviously there wasn't a guy who could turn water into wine and part seas and heal the paralysed, but those stories are all metaphores out of which people can learn lessons and follow principles brought up in these stories.

Re: Just curious...what religion are you?

One thing is God and one thing is the bible. If the bible has some wrong facts (probably a lot) that doesn't mean that God exists or it doesn't.

Re: Just curious...what religion are you?

Roman Catholic, Jesuit, partly influenced by Rousseau's theology (though he was a Catholic for only a part of his life).

Unlike Orka_n, I like seeing myself as part of inner movements inside the Christian religion because I like division. Because division creates debates, contradiction. It doesn't mean I disrespect my 'opponents'. On the contrary, I think debates on "grace vs virtue' 'humanism', 'Man's natural goodness', the 'Original Sin', etc. (i.e. the debates between Jesuits and Jansenists, or Catholics and Protestants) are much more valuable for the mind than debates on the weather, tramcars or 'does God exist or not?' and that's not even close.

Re: Just curious...what religion are you?

An atheist indifferent to religion, that is to say not at war against what I in the first place deny exists.

All things are subject to interpretation whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth.

No, the indifferent universe is the worst enemy to mankind and it will leave no trace of whatever life it created by accident when it is done with us.

How many blood have spilled from the beginning of the mankind trough medieval holy wars and modern days just because of some stupid religious norms and fictional god characters fallowed by greed. It is both disturbing and disgusting.

it might be true but it's totally irrelevant. the point of a religious crime (if such term exists) is to show that people have done misdeeds to others over a matter of religious intolerance, prejucide, etc. of that there are several documented cases. on the other hand, there are few cases of atheists killing others over matters of faith or whatnot.
