Re: Andre Agassi autobiography "Open"

Another great interview - NY Book Review (which also gave it a great review in the new issue):

Re: Andre Agassi autobiography "Open"

Let me tell you, the autograph that I got from Andre on my book looks nothing like the one in the NYTimes video interview! !! Thanks for the video links, peeps. The Tavis Smiley was excellent!!! I'm so sorry I missed it. Heck, I've missed them all. I worked yesterday, so missed Ellen, I missed Dave, etc. I hope he does Larry King, that I hope NOT to miss (doubt it though, since he didn't do it when he was in LA).

There were tons of people at Borders, Century City, California (LA) on Wednesday night (Nov 18th), and most had multiple copies of the book (I had three - one for me, my daughter and son).

He looks smaller in size (not as bulky) than I'd expected. I can't say taller (although the guys behind me commented on how he seemed taller to them). He looks like the GOOD photos of himself--the younger looking ones--not the haggard ones. Not better, not worse, just like a great photo of himself. Even without hair, he grooms with precision. My daughter commented on how "shiny" his shaved head was. It WAS shiny!

Nice sexy voice, and he was sweet even though we only had about 6 seconds together. He was personable with every person even though there were so many people to greet, sign a book for, speak to. His signature was truncated (as I mention above), but only to be expected. I bet he will have a cramped tired signing hand when it's over (he probably had it at the end of Wednesday night).

All in all, I'm glad I took off work, stood in the cold (well, cold for LA) and went. I still would like the autographs of Steffi and Chrissie Evert -- but you know what, having Dre's is enough if I never meet his wife or my childhood hero, because he was so pleasant.

They wouldn't allow photos, so I only have a couple of not so great phone photos - which maybe I'll post later.

On His Son: after his son threw a tennis ball at Agassi's dad, his dad told Agassi if his son ever did that again, he'd kick his butt so hard, his son wouldn't sh*t for a week. Agassi's son responded with more curiosity than fear, asking, "Is that possible?"

The twitter account is getting pretty active ("agassiandre" strangely), and they (publicity people obviously) have put up a Facebook page too:

Sounds a bit exasperated here...

The Vogue is out. Nothing to add in the interview but a very lovely photograph - unusually romantic for Vogue and for a posed for public consumption photo of Graf and Agassi.

Re: Andre Agassi autobiography "Open"

That video of the Reilly conversation is interesting. I read several accounts of it:
1) That was the first interview after 60 minutes - had worked out what he was going to say as he's said much the same repeatedly since.
2) You can see his parents (and I think brother) very clearly standing up and clapping at the start and the end. They look very proud of him.
