Agassi Withdraws From TD Waterhouse Cup
COMMACK, N.Y., Aug. 22
-- Top seed Andre Agassi has withdrawn from the 24th annual TD Waterhouse Cup presented by Roslyn Savings Bank, which begins Monday at the Hamlet Golf & Country Club in Commack, it was announced today by Kari Mutscheller, tournament director.
"While I had hoped to play next week, my results in the last two ATP tournaments have caused fatigue and forced me to re-evaluate my schedule as the U.S. Open approaches," said Agassi. "I look forward to seeing the fans in New York and I hope that I can participate in future TD Waterhouse Cups."
The Long Island field remains strong with former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt seeking a victory in the US Open Series points race. If Hewitt wins Long Island he will capture the inaugural summer series. Also deepening the draw are two-time defending champion Paradorn Srichaphan, veteran Todd Martin, and U.S. Davis Cup player Robby Ginepri.
"We are very disappointed to lose Andre," said Elliot Monter, tournament owner. "Fans can still look forward to terrific tennis action though, with Hewitt and Srichaphan in town, it will be exciting to watch."
Go Andre! We wish you good luck!
