Re: Benoit Paire

Benoit won 6-1 6-4. So pleased with his progress recently. Didn't expect him to qualify here at all, so congratulations to him. It would be amazing if he could win a round now and hopefully they will put him on a TV court no matter who he plays. Allez!

Not-crazy Benoit vs Crazy Dani would be deserving of a show-court.

Benoit Paire

I saw Benoit Paire today, I know him since four years now, his rising was normal. He's now the NEXT BIG THING FOR FRANCE.

he's solid this year 4 wins/ 3 losses on Challenger tour
22/5 on Futures tour,
but he hasn't played a single match on ATP tour, so it'll be his debut on this level

next safin if he improves his footwork imo

expect him to beat rochus

I have been honestly surprised that he destroyed a rock solid baseliner like kindlmann today, expected him to struggle in this matchup

Surely you can't be serious here. I mean maybe Safin when he had declined a lot, but Safin won a Grand Slam at 20 while Paire is 21 and playing futures....

I'm not talking about developement status at a given age, I'm talking about the similarities of hitting heavy shots on both wings consistently.

he has all the talent to become a great player, he will probably never be as good as safin, he would have to be better by now, but he can become a top30 player at least

as you mentioned, he is 21 and playing futures which is not too impressive.
I watched him when he played in st.brieuc and I was disappointed because of his attitude on court(he was very negative, very nervous) and because of the lack of footwork

so he definitely has a lot of work to do

as I said I meant it more because of his safin-like style of playing, comparing him to marat in terms of class and maturity(when it comes to playing tennis, not the behaviour on court ) would be asking way too much of course

sorry for the confusion here

He's nothing like Safin. Sure he has a big serve and great backhand, but his game is more about all the variety and he moves really well - rather than having huge, booming groundies.
