Re: Benoit Paire

Won the first set 6-2. He played some stunning tennis, and for most of that set my jaw was just wide open in shock. Huge backhands, lobs, dropshots, aces, serve and volleys, angles... He did everything so well.

Re: Benoit Paire

First time i was watching him and it was a good match by Benoit. He has some incredible shots by moments and a very good serve and he's quite fun to follow . His tennis seems quite risky so it must not work everyday. He looks a bit chien fou but he has good tennis. I need to see him against someone else than Delgado to be sure but he seems to have the level for top 100.

Yeah, I agree. He needs to improve his forehand though. By the way, what does 'chien fou' mean?

It's a french expression but i only mean that's he seems a bit crazy with a lot of energy that he needs to keep and use in the right way at the right moment. He's yound and he's not afraid even by nadal Pity he didn't have a MD WC for RG but i think i will follow more his results now.

Re: Benoit Paire

He really seems to be breaking through, hope he can keep it up!

I read an article that said he got kicked out of the FFT for being ? I really didn't know that.

Re: Benoit Paire

Yes, last summer, and he sounds quite bitter about it, he regularly mentions it.
Certainly the reason why he didn't get a wild-card.

Je me sens bien dans ma tête et tout va pour le mieux. J’ai envie de prouver à tout le monde que je sais jouer au tennis et que mentalement je ne suis pas un fou. »
He says that his mind wasn't on tennis during two months after he was kicked out of the FFT. But he has calmed down now and he's eager to show everybody that he can play tennis and he's not crazy.

Re: Benoit Paire

^^ Oh, Benoit. I haven't seen much of him, but he certainly didn't seem crazy in what I have seen! A little dramatic maybe, did he used to be much worse?

Re: Benoit Paire

In L'Equipe today, journalists love his name, it's perfect for all kinds of puns in French ("hors Paire", etc.)
Llodra said in Bordeaux that Benoît reminds him of himself when he was young, a bit crazy, tennis needs people like him.
His former FFT coach Prigent was watching him yesterday during his match against Koubek. His comment at the end of the match: "He must be the only player on the tour whose attacking shot is the dropshot".
Then Benoît talks again about his chequered past and the stories with the FFT, he admits he used to be over the top, like when he broke all his racquets because he didn't feel like playing a tournament (it's an old story, they were already mentioning it in the articles of last year about the RG qualies).
Now he's found a new coach, Zimbler, and they work a lot on the mental side. Not get all worked up, stay focused. And it's been working since the beginning of the year.

Thank you. Yeah, he is definitely pretty calm now in the handful of matches i've seen him in this year. I thought he was possibly even too laid back, but now I see that it must be a conscious effort to control his temper.

As for the dropshots, last week in the Delgado match he used them perfectly; he used them a lot but at the right times and he was still crushing as many backhand drives as possible. This is compared to in the Llodra match where he hit about three drive backhands in the entire match because he was too busy dropshotting the entire time, which is a shame because his backhand really is such a great shot.

Re: Benoit Paire

QR2
B.Paire def S.Gonzalez 7-6 5-7 7-5.

*Phew* Could have been easier, was a break up at the start of the third, took like 15mn to go from *3-2 to *4-5!!
Happy ending though.

Re: Benoit Paire

I hate him, that was so stressful! He was up *5-3 in set one and saved a set point at 5-6*, then he was up 5-3* in set two before losing four straight games, then he was up a break in set three before being broken back straight away to love. At 5-5* in the third he saved literally about 10 or so game points and then he finally got one break point and converted it straight away. He looked like he was going to get broken back at 15-30 but he managed to finish it off there.

But a great win, points defended, and hopefully it will give him confidence to qualify tomorrow.

He plays Kindlmann in the final round. It's winnable!
