Re: Fabio Fognini - The Hope of Italy

Fabio has had wrist issues this season that have really affected his level of play, and he had one match win since February going into this week in Belgrade. Fabio won one match at Belgrade, defeating Q Skugor 6-3 6-1 before losing in poor fashion to Djokovic 4-6 4-6, having had chances in both sets, and with Djokovic struggling with his health. Fabio is now ranked #80 and has a 5-12 record this season, with his highlight making the QF of Costa.

Fabio is in the position now where he needs wins to hold on to his ranking so hopefully he can find form soon before he drops out of the top 100, which would be awful. His next tournament is Madrid next week, hopefully he has a good week and a turn of fortune in Spain!

Re: Fabio Fognini - The Hope of Italy

Here is Fabio's section of the draw in Madrid:

Tsonga - Bye
Garcia-Lopez - Q4
Fognini - Petzschner
Robert - Monfils

Not a very good draw. Petzschner has been playing quite well and likely Monfils awaiting afterwards. Fabio needs to start gaining points to stay in the top 100 and this draw isn't going to help with the condition he is in, but he can beat Petzschner and Monfils is just returning from injury, so they are winnable matches if Fabio can start playing up to his ability.

Good luck in Spain, Fabio!

Re: Fabio Fognini - The Hope of Italy

Well, Fabio blew another opportunity today, losing to Petzschner 1-6 6-4 5-7. He was down 6-1 3-1 and won 6 of the last 7 games in the second set and got ahead in the third set and served for the match at 5-4, and sadly lost the game and got broken again in his next service game to lose. Another unfortunate loss, and his ranking is going to take another hit as he was defending 70 points from Madrid. It's time for him to step on the gas or risk having to play challengers again. Hopefully in Nice next week, he can get some wins and much needed confidence.

Nice win over Massu in 5 tough sets, he looked to be in better form than in his other clay matches this season. Looking forward to the possible matchup against Gael next round.

Re: Fabio Fognini - The Hope of Italy

Hello everyone in here

I have deserted MTF since last July but today I just feel like posting because I'm soooooooooo proud of Fabio these days. First the win over Massu, which I haven't seen but it really made me happy that he reached the second round after a 5-sets fight

And today, it must be the first time I'm glad it rained in RG because I got to see the match after work. And although I love Gaël and would be fine if he wins, I so hope Fogna wins tomorrow. I honestly believed this morning that he couldn't, but I got so excited tonight watching the match!
I'm just mad I'll be at work and won't see it

And whatever happens, let's hope it'll all boost his confidence

Yea!!!!!!! Great win, great fighting, and good job staying positive. Finally took advantage of his opportunity to do some damage. Hopefully this is the start of bigger and better things.

Good luck vs. Wawrinka, Fabio!

Re: Fabio Fognini - The Hope of Italy

He really manned up today. That last game was amazing, down 0-40 and just starts dictating with the forehand and perfectly placing the dropshots. Really great to watch.
