Re: Fabio Fognini - The Hope of Italy

Did he win his 1st round match in Hamburg? I can't find the result on the ATP scoreboard.

Edit: He won 6-4 6-2 according to the local newspaper.

Re: Fabio Fognini - The Hope of Italy

But he played well! I was there and it was my favourite match of the day. His match in Madrid also was my favourite there, I really like watching him in person.
He got a nice support from the crowd too, I was not the only one who appreciated his effort and his performance.
It was quite a brainfart from Robin when he didn't close it out in the 2nd set (2 DF in one game), but Fabio didn't make the work easy for him either, he played a beautiful BH volley in particular in that game, and then did really well to take the 2nd set in the TB. Good fight in the 3rd too, Söderling was impressive from the baseline, Fabio was chasing down loads of balls which looked unreachable.

Re: Fabio Fognini - The Hope of Italy

I took a few pics, they're crap because I was sitting quite far, it's just to give you an idea of how it looked like. It was funny when he fell after another crazy action and had clay all over his face, it looked like war paints (I didn't catch the spectacular action, but you can see the clay a little bit in the last pics).

Re: Fabio Fognini - The Hope of Italy

Thanks Fran, lovely photos. The "warpaint" is fitting, as I think Fabio has been more of a fighter lately and his defence has been very impressive. Glad you got to see a good match.

Don't know what to think of the facial hair, but I'm not against it.

Re: Fabio Fognini - The Hope of Italy

painful loss>_<
He had so many BPs but blew them...just took 1 out of 10...
and in the 2nd set, he was good in the beginning but still lost in the end...
Good luck in his next tournament~^_<

Re: Fabio Fognini - The Hope of Italy

Why isn't he playing Cincy? Does he need some rest or is he injured?

Thanks! I had forgotten he has a website, I'm not used to it with the other players I follow.

Re: Fabio Fognini - The Hope of Italy

Fabio retired from the match against Tipsy with left knee pain when he lost 1st set, down 0-2,0-40 in 2nd set
Hope the knee problem doesn't bother him too much and he can do well in US Open
