I need some advice here.
Hubby is thinking driving back to Canada this summer. It's a longgggggg drive (about 30 hours driving time at least) He wants to drive because he wants to take our dog with us. I think it will be very stressful for everybody and the dog but I also anticipate I have a BIG fight with this. Any suggestions?
I actually like long drives sometimes. My husband and I have had to drive from West Texas to Chicago (three day trip), San Diego to Chicago (three days if your lucky) as well as from Chicago to Austin (two day trip). We have done both with and without dog. On times when the dog needed to go with us to our destination (as opposed to boarding him), my husband refused to fly our dog because flying can be very, very tramatic for the pooches.
We had fun, stopped in some neat towns to spend the night, made sure that there were hotels that would accept dogs- and also found if there were any dog friendly restaurants to stay in the towns were were staying. Plus- we had doggy valium.
We also brought in plenty of books on CD. I know you have a kiddo- which we don't- but maybe you could purchase some Harry Potter audio books or someother books that could appear to both the kids and the 'rents? The voicework is awesome in the HP books, for example, and are good if both you have never read the books or are familiar with them.
And maybe along the way you can see if there are any goofy road side attractions, such as the world's largest ball of string.
If you do drive, good luck and hope that it doesn't end up like the Griswalds!
