Re: Figure Skating

Okay, I just watched the US coverage of World's. The men we got to see:

1 Stephane LAMBIEL
2 Jeffrey BUTTLE
3 Evan LYSACEK
4 Johnny WEIR
5 Brian JOUBERT
6 Plushy (just the short, of course)

Right off, let me say that I feel for you Joubert fans. Its like me watching Sandhu implode, although I didn't get to see Eman this time. I must say that if Joubert can't stand up on his quads he doesn't stand a chance against those with more artistry (Buttle, Eman, Weir and Lambiel).

I'm very happy for Lambiel, but I would be happier if Weir and Plushy were healthy and it was an all around fair fight.

I didn't watch any of the Pair's because other than Shen/Zhao, they all leave me cold. Tomorrow, some of the women's and dance.

Re: Figure Skating

Has anyone else noticed that Evgeni Plushenko since last spring has looked more and more tired, sick and under strain?
I especially do not like the way he looked during his interview after withdrawing from the World Championships (more than sadness was weighing him down).

He pushes himself too hard and tries to meet very, very high expectations.

He is my favorite male skater!

Me thinks it's been a long 4 years.

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Re: Figure Skating

Stephane
It wasn't perfect but he was definitely the best out of all the competitors. And his elegance in movements is just breathtaking!

I agree on Brian. If he doesn't land his jumps he has hard time competing with the top guys...
And he totally fucked up yesterday
But the one who fucked up even MORE was the Japanese guy Poor lad! I was surprised he didn't just walk off after a while cause yesterday absolutely nothing was going his way (BTW, I loved his hairdo )
Also Griazev disappointed but I'm sure he'll bounce back.
So seeing all these guys struggle made me little cautious. After Stephane messed up one jump, I was all thinking, ok here we go AGAIN

BTW, I was thinking the same thing about Plushy being out (didn't know Weir was injured). It would have felt so mush better if all the guys were healthy and competing (although I'm ok with Plushenko not getting any medal )
But it's sport and what can you do...

Re: Figure Skating

yup Griasev was a bit dissapointing i thought he would at least in top 10 but heh wot can you do at the end of the day it doesnt matter how well you do in practie or wot ever (yeah obvioisly it cant towards it) but it wot happens on the night, if you 'fucked up' as you nicely put it youve basically buggered up your chances! but maybe it was a one-off for Joubert (Hopefully)

Re: Figure Skating

Yeah, hopfully it was one-off. He is talanted and deserves to be at the top. I bet it's gonna hurt for a while but hopefully he can put it behind.
Figure skating is one cruel sport coz all year long you train like a madman and then you've got 5min to show what you can. If you mess it than thank you and good bye

yeah i saw that too, he didnt look right. he kept saying that his mother & his coach and everyone was telling him to try it and not pull out but i think he made the right choice cos he could've made it worse and then be fucked for Turin.

Re: Figure Skating

I've seen photos of when plushy annonced his withdrawal and he looked totally drained out like he had no energy left but i hope he takes as much time off so he can recover quickly!

Good luck to Irina Slutskaya! I hope she wins the gold medal in her hometown after all the health struggles she's gone through. Udachi Irina! :bouncy: But if anyone beats her for the gold I hope it is Sasha Cohen.
