Re: Your Favourite Songs & Lyrics

Christina Aguilera ft. Nelly ~ Tilt Ya Head Back

Yeah, that's tight (uh)
Check it, drop the drum right (hmmm..yeah)
Put some horns in it..woo! (that's right)
Do it again (yeah yeah, ha oooh oooh alright, ha)
Give her what she want, give her what she want uh [repeat]

[Verse 1: Christina]
I see you lookin', uh
like what you see?
Boy, now don't be shy
and look at her face in opportunity

[Nelly (Christina):]
She's right ya know (uh uh), she's right (ah)
Man, she's right ya know (uh uh), she's right (ow!)
You stand there looking at me (at me)
I stand herre looking at you girl (at you boy)
You know exactly what's on my mind (yeah yeah)

[Christina (Nelly):]
It's just so easy to see (to see)
You came here looking for me (but uh uh)
But I don't do that type of thing all the time, yeah
(You want me to)
Come here boy
I got a little something for ya
(You got a little bit, can I get a little bit? yeah yeah)
And I don't know (I don't know what it is but
I just want to get to know ya, alright alright..yeah

yeah)

[Chorus:]
I need to daaaaaance
(Tilt ya head back, tilt ya head back)
All night
(Bring it back up slowly, that's right)
I need ya to daaaaaance
(Tilt ya head back, tilt ya head back)
All night
(Bring it back up slowly, that's right)

[Verse 2: Nelly]
Now situations, girl
They often change
Sometimes for the good
Sometimes for the bad, but who's to blame?

[Christina (Nelly):]
He's right ya know (uh uh), he's right (oh babygirl)
He's right ya know (uh uh), he's right, OW!

[Nelly (Christina):]

(You got a little bit, can I get a little bit? yeah yeah)
And I don't know (I don't know what it is
but I just want to get to know ya, alright alright..yeah

yeah)

[Chorus:]
I need to daaaaaance
(Tilt ya head back, tilt ya head back)
All night
(Bring it back up slowly, that's right)
I need ya to daaaaaance
(Tilt ya head back, tilt ya head back)
All night
(Bring it back up slowly, that's right)

(Everybody says)
Hustle for me, hustle (hustle)
Hustle for me, hustle (hustle)
Hustle for me, hustle (hustle)
Hustle for me, yeah

[Verse 3: Christina]
So, you got some nerve thinking you're so
I got a little bit of that
A little bit of this
A little bit of back
With a little bit of [beep]

[Nelly (Christina):]
You stand there looking at me (at me)
I stand herre looking at you girl (at you boy)
You know exactly what's on my mind (yeah yeah)

[Christina (Nelly):]
It's just so easy to see (to see)
You came here looking for me (but uh uh)
But I don't do that type of thing all the tiiiiiiiiiiiime
(You want me to)
Come here boy
I got a little something for ya
(You got a little bit, can I get a little bit? yeah yeah)
And I don't know (I don't know what
it is but I just want to get to know ya, alright alright..yeah

yeah)

[Chorus:]
I need to daaaaaance
(Tilt ya head back, tilt ya head back)
All night
(Bring it back up slowly, that's right)
I need ya to daaaaaance
(Tilt ya head back, tilt ya head back)
All night
(Bring it back up slowly, that's right)

give her what she want uh) [repeat 'til end]
oooohooooh, oooh yea, ha!
Oh Nelly!

Re: Your Favourite Songs & Lyrics

Suzanne Vega: Gypsy

You come from far away
With pictures in your eyes
Of coffeeshops and morning streets
In the blue and silent sunrise
But night is the cathedral
Where we recognized the sign
We strangers know each other now
As part of the whole design

Oh, hold me like a baby
That will not fall asleep
Curl me up inside you
And let me hear you through the heat

You are the jester of this courtyard
With a smile like a girl’s
Distracted by the women
With the dimples and the curls
By the pretty and the mischievous
By the timid and the blessed
By the blowing skirts of ladies
Who promise to gather you to their breast

Oh, hold me like a baby...

You have hands of raining water
And that earring in your ear
The wisdom on your face
Denies the number of your years
With the fingers of the potter
And the laughing tale of the fool
The arranger of disorder
With your strange and simple rules
Yes now I’ve met me another spinner
Of strange and gauzy threads
With a long and slender body
And a bump upon the head

Oh, hold me like a baby...

With a long and slender body
And the sweetest softest hands
And we’ll blow away forever soon
And go on to different lands
And please do not ever look for me
But with me you will stay
And you will hear yourself in song
Blowing by one day

Oh, hold me like a baby...

Re: Your Favourite Songs & Lyrics

Alicia Keys - Fallin'

I keep on fallin'
In and out of love
With you
Sometimes I love ya
Sometimes you make me blue
Sometimes I feel good
At times I feel used
Lovin' you darlin' makes me so confused

I keep on fallin'
In and out of love with you
I never loved someone
The way that I love you

Oh, oh, I never felt this way
How do you give me so much pleasure
And cause me so much pain
Just when I think
I've taken more than would a fool
I start fallin' back in love with you

I keep on fallin'
In and out of love with you
I never loved someone
The way that I love you

Oh baby
I, I, I, I'm fallin'
I, I, I, I'm fallin'
Fall

I keep on fallin'
In and out of love with you
I never loved someone
The way that I love you
[3x]

What?

Re: Your Favourite Songs & Lyrics

Have You Ever Seen The Rain - Creedence Clearwater Revival

Someone told me long ago
There's a calm before the storm
I know
It's been comin' for some time
When it's over, so they say
It'll rain a sunny day
I know
Shinin' down like water

I wanna know
Have you ever seen the rain?
I wanna know
Have you ever seen the rain
Comin' down on a sunny day?

Yesterday, and days before
Sun is cold and rain is hard I know
Been that way for all my time
'Til forever, on it goes
Through the circle, fast and slow
I know
It can't stop,
I wonder

I wanna know
Have you ever seen the rain?
I wanna know
Have you ever seen the rain
Comin' down on a sunny day?
Yeah!

I wanna know
Have you ever seen the rain?
I wanna know
Have you ever seen the rain
Comin' down on a sunny day?

Omnia vincit amor

Re: Your Favourite Songs & Lyrics

Yes Mrs B, Suzanne Vega is a very gifted writer. I have to admit I love more of her lyrics than her songs, but still there are many pieces she has written where everything comes together wonderfully and pure beauty emerges.

Re: Your Favourite Songs & Lyrics

Live Forever - Oasis

Maybe I don't really wanna know
How your garden grows
Cos I just want to fly
Lately, did you ever feel the pain
Of the morning rain
As it soaks you to the bone

Maybe I just want to fly
I want to live I don't want to die
Maybe I just want to breath
Maybe I just don't believe
Maybe you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever

Maybe I don't really wanna know
How your garden grows
Cos I just want to fly
Lately, did you ever feel the pain
Of the morning rain
As it soaks you to the bone

Maybe I will never be
All the things that I want to be
But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why
I think you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever
We're gonna live forever
Gonna live forever
Live forever
Forever

Omnia vincit amor

Re: Your Favourite Songs & Lyrics

The ideal time to reveal the song that inspired my nickname on MTF:

Björk: Pagan poetry

Pedalling through the dark currents
I find an accurate copy, a blueprint
of the pleasure in me

[choir] Swirling black lilies totally ripe

A secret code carved, a secret code carved

[choir] Swirling black lilies totally ripe

He offers a handshake, crooked five fingers
they form a pattern yet to be matched

[choir] Swirling black lilies totally ripe

On the surface simplicity
but the darkest pit in me
is pagan poetry
[choir] Swirling black lilies totally ripe

Morse - coded - signals
they pulsate, they wake me up
from my deep sleep,
from my hibernation

On the surface simplicity
but the darkest pit in me
is pagan poetry

I love him, I love him, I love him

This time : I'm gonna keep me to myself
This time : I'm gonna keep my all to myself

[choir whispers] She loves him, she loves him, she loves him

But he makes me want to hand myself over

[choir whispers] She loves him

indeed. this is one of my faves from her:

"Language"

If language were liquid
It would be rushing in
Instead here we are
In a silence more eloquent
Than any word could ever be

These words are too solid
They don't move fast enough
To catch the blur in the brain
That flies by and is gone
Gone
Gone
Gone

I'd like to meet you
In a timeless, placeless place
Somewhere out of context
And beyond all consequences

Let's go back to the building
(Words are too solid)
On Little West Twelfth
It is not far away
(They don't move fast enough)
And the river is there
And the sun and the spaces
Are all laying low
(To catch the blur in the brain)
And we'll sit in the silence
(That flies by and is)
That comes rushing in and is
Gone (Gone)

I won't use words again
They don't mean what I meant
They don't say what I said
They're just the crust of the meaning
With realms underneath
Never touched
Never stirred
Never even moved through

If language were liquid
It would be rushing in
Instead here we are
In a silence more eloquent
Than any word could ever be

And is gone
Gone
Gone
And is gone

Re: Your Favourite Songs & Lyrics

Alicia Keys - Troubles

Dear Lord again, take it away
This pain in my heart that just bothers me day by day
And at night it stalks me like the shadows on my wall
Oh my goodness

Feel like the world is closin' on me
Feel like my dreams will never come to me
I keep on slippin' deeper into myself
And I'm scared, so scared

If you're troubled you just gotta let it go
If you're troubled you just gotta let it go
All your hustles ain't for nothin', you just gotta take it slow
When you need me baby all you do is let me know

Why does it feel that my mind is constantly tryin'
To pull me down?
I can't seem to get away
Continuous mistakes I know I've made before
How long will I feel so out of place?

If you're troubled you just gotta let it go
If you're troubled you just gotta let it go
All your hustles ain't for nothin', you just gotta take it slow
When you need me baby all you do is let me know

That's gorgeous indeed Mrs B. I haven't immersed myself in all of her albums yet, it's one of my intentions to do so in the future.

Re: Your Favourite Songs & Lyrics

The intense duet between Björk and Thom Yorke from Radiohead, from the viewpoint of a girl losing her sight:

I'VE SEEN IT ALL

I've seen it all, I have seen the trees,
I've seen the willow leaves dancing in the breeze
I've seen a friend killed by a friend,
And lives that were over before they were spent.
I've seen what I was - I know what I'll be
I've seen it all - there is no more to see!

You haven't seen elephants, kings or Peru!
- I'm happy to say I had better to do
What about China? Have you seen the Great Wall?
- All walls are great, if the roof doesn't fall!

And the man you will marry? The home you will share?
- To be honest, I really don't care...

You've never been to Niagara Falls?
- I have seen water, its water, that's all...
The Eiffel Tower, the Empire State?
- My pulse was as high on my very first date!
Your grandson's hand as he plays with your hair?
- To be honest, I really don't care...

I've seen it all, I've seen the dark
I've seen the brightness in one little spark.
I've seen what I chose and I've seen what I need,
And that is enough, to want more would be greed.
I've seen what I was and I know what I'll be
I've seen it all - there is no more to see!

You've seen it all and all you have seen
You can always review on your own little screen
The light and the dark, the big and the small
Just keep in mind - you need no more at all
You've seen what you were and know what you'll be
You've seen it all - there is no more to see

Re: Your Favourite Songs & Lyrics

and another Alicia Keys favourite of mine (you see I'm a huge fan... )

Alicia Keys - Butterflyz

Lately when I look into your eyes I realize
You're the only one I need in my life
Baby I just don't know how to describe
How lovely you make me feel inside

You give me butterflyz
Got me flyin' so high in the sky
I can't control the butterflyz

It seems like the likely thing
From the start you told me
I would be your queen
But never had I imagined such a feeling
Joy is what you bring
I want to give you everything

You give me butterflyz
Got me flyin' so high in the sky
I can't control the butterflyz

You and I are destiny
I know that you were made for me

You give me butterflyz
Got me flyin' so high in the sky
I can't control the butterflyz

Re: Your Favourite Songs & Lyrics

I'm interested to hear people's favourite song of Nick Cave. Anyone?

Meanwhile Inertia Creeps from triphop's finest, off their fabulous album Mezzanine which merges beauty in music, voice and lyric in such a way they are unseparable.
The album is a whole for me, but I chose this song 'cause capturing sexual tension in popular music is often tried and often failed. This cross section between hiphop, rock and Eastern sounds sums up what Massive Attack are the masters in: creating a delicate balance of sound in every way to serve the goal of communicating moods and feelings.

Massive Attack: Inertia creeps

3d:
Recollect me darling, raise me to your lips
Two undernourished egos, four rotating hips
Hold on to me tightly, I'm a sliding scale
Can't endure then you can't inhale
Clearly
Out of body experience - interferes
And dreams of flying - I fit nearly
Surrounds me - though I get lonely
Slowly

Moving up slowly
Inertia keeps
She's moving up slowly
Slowly
Moving up slowly
Inertia creeps
Moving up slowly
She comes
Moving up slowly
She comes
Moving up slowly
Inertia creeps
Moving up slowly
She comes
Moving up slowly
Moving up slowly

In my home no chrome as clear as
See me now with my nearest dearest
Been there when I'm over careering
Room shifting is endearing
Between us is our kitchen
Would you found my irritant's itching
Been here before
Been here forever

Moving up slowly
Inertia keeps
Moving up slowly
Inertia creeps
Moving up slowly
Inertia keeps
Moving up slowly
She comes
Moving up slowly
Moving up slowly
She comes moving up slowly
Inertia creeps moving up slowly

She comes
I make no sound in my eidertown
Awake I lie in the morning's blue
Room is still my antenna in you
Nylon burns the bedspread with two
Gravity's zero see me stall
I bounce off walls lose my footing and fall
It can be sweet though incomplete though
And the frames will freeze
See me on all four's
It's been a long time

She comes
She comes
I want to x you
She comes
I want to x you
She comes

I caught your radio waves
I caught your radio waves
Will you take a string
Say you string me along
Say you string me along
Say inertia creeps
Inertia creeps and she comes
Say she comes
Say she comes
Say she comes
Say she comes

Re: Your Favourite Songs & Lyrics

This song reflects my thoughts of last weeks TMC. It played in my head too many times.

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Who'll stop the rain

Long as I remember the rain been comin’ down.
Clouds of myst’ry pourin’ confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages, tryin’ to find the sun;
And I wonder, still I wonder, who’ll stop the rain.

I went down virginia, seekin’ shelter from the storm.
Caught up in the fable, I watched the tower grow.
Five year plans and new deals, wrapped in golden chains.
And I wonder, still I wonder who’ll stop the rain.

Heard the singers playin’, how we cheered for more.
The crowd had rushed together, tryin’ to keep warm.
Still the rain kept pourin’, fallin’ on my ears.
And I wonder, still I wonder who’ll stop the rain.

17 (yes, yes, yes!) Slams! And counting....
