Of course it was a mammoth task, but I believe that Barça needs a coach with charisma too. And I'm always in favour for a coach with a great football carreer. Yes, I know it's no guarentee because there have been a lot of failures while other coaches like Mourinho didn't even have a professional carreer but I would like to see Eusebio, Luis Enrique. Hell, I'm even happy with Sergi, Juan Antonio Pizzi or something. Guess we have to wait a couple of years till Xavi takes over. I think he will make a great coach too.

GK is also a high priority, a decent goalkeeper definately should have saved the first one. Second one was a great strike from Muntari. A goal poacher we already have in Messi. Another striker wouldn't work in my opinion. I've been thinking how great Barça would be with Llorente, Cavani or Falcao (or v Persie before he went to Man Utd). But I think those players don't fit well into the Barça system. Eto'o was the last striker who really functioned well. Best option for me, is buying Neymar next season but maybe he will fail and play equally bad as Alexís. Interesting transfer periods for us, since we also don't have a great striker in La Masía.

Re: Football Zone

El Shaarawy looks like he could be the 3rd member of Jedward. Milan tactically played it superbly, unlike Chelsea they weren't cowardly. Milan had all the chances, this time the whole pass it to Messi and hope he scores tactics didn't work.

“ On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

The best thing is that Abbiati was totally jobless today.
Congrats to Milan who played so disciplined, dedicated and with a lot of heart

And here's the handball,or should I say headball.Too bad there's no other angle.Wasn't an easy one for the referee. When I first saw it on TV it looked like handball for sure, but if you look closely, might not have been.

Re: Football Zone

The last time I remember to see Barça playing this bad was in Rijkaard's time, or I dare to say, in Van Gaal's time. No soul, no tactic. Absolutely ZERO. I could do the job Roura is doing there. We really miss Tito. I hope he is good for the 2nd leg.

Great match by Milan. Tottally deserved the win, and the players were fighting for every ball with lots of passion.

Still, I believe we have a good chance of coming back. WE ARE BARÇA! MÉS QUE UN CLUB! It will be very hard, I know. But not impossible for sure. But we need badly Tito for that.

I dont want to talk about referees. I let that job to the Llourinhos of this life. VISCA EL BARÇA! It's in the hardest moments we see the greatests of teams!

Sporting Clube de Portugal, Fútbol Club Barcelona, Newcastle United Football Club, FK Vilniaus Žalgiris

Yeah I've never been impressed by Pedro. I think if he played for Osasuna or the like he would be a nobody.

Sanchez has been a big disappointment. He was awesome at Udinese. Maybe he just doesn't fit the Barca style. His pace is a bit irrelevant because Barca rarely have to counter while Udinese were a great team on the counter.

Fabregas has also been useless. I didn't even realize he was playing until you mentioned he got subbed. He was so invisible I didn't know he was the one subbed out, I figured it was Pedro, which shows how invisible he was.

If Milan can get an away goal which they did last year then the tie should be theirs. If not I think it goes to extra time unless someone like Muntari gets sent off, which would not be surprising at all. Muntari was excellent today though, for sure his best game in years.

From a Barca standpoint it is a shame Eto'o and Guardiola didn't get along. Inter really fleeced Barca in the Eto'o and cash for Ibra deal.

Barca need another natural CB as well unless one of the youngsters is ready to make the step up. Puyol still works really hard but sometimes that isn't enough for him anymore. He was beaten quite easily by Niang for the second. And Mascherano and Song in CB is not the best way to go.

Agreed. The only thing why Pedro excelled, is because he plays in a great team. His main qualities are positioning, his lines of running and ball control. He is not really quick, can't pass a man, doesn't have a brilliant through ball.

Alexís doesn't fit in the system. It's all about Messi, and Sanchez is a flashy player himself. In Udinese/Chilean squad he was a revelation. Now he is a shadow of that player. I think a team like Manchester United or Arsenal would be perfect for him.

Cesc was horrific today but he is playing a great season in my opinion. For sure, he doesn't have his Arsenal form yet, but I'm convinced he can be a key player in the coming years. Iniesta and Xavi weren't as good when they were 25 either.

Hopefully we can score an early goal and start pressing. If Milan scores 0-1 or 1-1 than I'm afraid it's over.

Yeah, although Milito was the goal scorer and Sneijder the architect Eto'o was irreplaceble in their squad. Too bad they couldn't get along. But Messi got better and better after Samuel left so goalwise we didn't lose much.

Well I don't know how well you are informed but I can prepare a little post about Barça squad in a next post.

Re: Football Zone

An elimination now can be a nice wake-up call for Barcelona to do bring some new players in the next off season. Their defence is becoming progressively weaker since last season and their team obviously is too dependent on Messi.

Re: Football Zone

Barca needs a world class striker to play with Messi. Alexis and pedro aren't consistent enough.

I still can't belive how they bought Sanchez instead of Aguero (City bought Aguero at the same amount Barca bought AS). Aguero is a better player and he gets along with Messi on and off the pitch.

And the defence has been weak for some time. Alves is a shadow of his former self and the team really misses Abidal.

Re: Football Zone

The best Barcelona team was the one in Guardiola's first season in 2008/2009, when they had the Eto'o-Messi-Henry trio up front. Yes Messi wasn't as good or quite as effective back then, but opposition defenders had to worry about 3 world class and dangerous forwards as opposed to just one.

Plus they had the bite of Yaya Toure in midfield, and in defence Puyol was younger and Pique wasn't as distracted by his celebrity lifestyle.

Credit to Milan as so many people were writing them off.

It's funny to think that the winner of the Man Utd - Real Madrid tie may be the only representative from the EPL or La Liga in the quarter-finals.
