Johnny Groove 2014 Mid-Season Progress Report/Thesis
Looking like this will be the plan for the rest of the year:
So far I have played 19 tournaments in 2014, but a few times earlier in the year I played more than one tournament during a tournament week, so I have really only competed in 16 tournament weeks so far. For the rest of the season, I am thinking:
Tournament 20/17, Coral Springs Men's Opens, August 2
Tournament 21/18, Plantation Men's Opens, August 9
Tournament 22/19, Tamarac Men's Open, August 16
Tournament 23/20, Aventura Men's Open, August 23 (chance to vulture small draw size?)
Tournament 24/21, Coral Springs Men's Open, August 29
Tournament 25/22, Weston Men's Opens, September 6
Tournament 26/23, Fort Lauderdale Men's Opens, September 20
Tournament 27/24, Palm Beach Gardens Men's Opens, September 26 (another chance to vulture small draw size?)
Tournament 28/25, North Miami Beach Men's Opens, October 4 (another chance to vulture small draw size)
Tournament 29/26, Delray Beach Opens, October 11 (remains to be seen quality of draw)
Tournament 30/27, Pembroke Pines Opens, October 18, probably a solid draw
2 weeks off, though if I for any reason alter the above schedule, I could play some 5.0/4.5 events in these 2 weeks to make up, but hopefully I take these weeks off, I'll need it I predict.
Tournament 31/28, Plantation Opens, November 8
1 week off, though again I have the option to play an NTRP
Tournament 32/29, ATP 250 Delray Pre-Qualie, November 22
Tournement 33/29, Turkey Bowl (Designated, worth 2x points) November 26
Here we have another situation with 2 tournaments in the same week
1 week off
Tournament 34/30, Sunrise Men's Opens, December 6
After that we have various January 2015 Florida Futures WC events, which I 99% won't take part in, as I will need to rest. I want not to play more than 30 tournament weeks in a year. January 2014, I was thinking to play 40 weeks this year, but my fatigue is setting in. 30 is enough, even though 34 total tournaments may be a bit much.
15 more tournament for the rest of the season, I am a little over half way there.
On January 10, 2014, I was ranked #1,115 in Florida. 6 months later, in the rankings just out July 10, I am ranked #140 in Florida. Nearly 1,000 spots in 6 months. Not bad, but I want to finish the year in the top 100 in Florida at least. The USTA ranking system in Florida counts only your top 4 finishes in tournaments and discards the rest. Similar 52 week rolling system as the ATP. Mine look like this:
1. February 22, 2014, Sans Souci Men's Open QF- 33 points
2. February 1, 2014, Plantation Men's Open R16- 21 points
3. June 14, 2014, Plantation Men's Open R32- 13 points
4. June 28, 2014, Plantation Men's Open R32- 13 points
I have 80 ranking points. I need 103 roughly to make the top 100 in Florida. If I make 2 more R16 in Men's Opens, I'll have 3 R16 and 1 QF for 96 points and roughly #122 in the State. So I need at least 1 QF. Let's say I make a QF, and 2 R16 for the rest of season, that would be 108 points, for roughly 98 or so in Florida. 2 QF would be 112 points, also inside top 100. A single SF would be 118 points to vault me up to 90 in the state.
So in order to break the top 100, I need either 2 R16 and 1 QF, 2 QF, or 1 SF.
Now then, with school approaching and starting August 18, it appears as though I will only be able to take 2 classes, so my weekly schedule would look like this
Monday, train all day, class 5-620, 7-1 at dominos, 6 hours on clock
Tuesday, train in the day, class 4-650, study at night
Wednesday train in day, class 5-620, 7-1 at dominos, 12 hours on clock
Thursday , train, study, Dominos 5-1, 20 hours on clock
Friday, Train and prepare and study
Saturday tournament all day
Sunday, tournament, dominos 5-1, 28 hours on clock, enough to pay bills and save a few hundred a month
Workaholic schedule for sure, but it will pay off, I am sure of it.
Now let's go and see what the fuck is going on.
Pay for my flights and I'll come to Florida
One day, brah.
My parents were talking about where to go on vacation this fall break, and they had finally decided on Florida. Then my mom asked, "Where in Florida?"
My immediate response: "BOCA!"
Not sure if anything is finalized, but there's a good chance we'll go out there.
Now how awesome would this be
