Looking forward to the Mejia match.
Just don't get confused by thinking that you are playing Mateja.
Is this Mejia some big prospect or what? I mean 14 year old playing here...
Yes, he is actually. I ended up losing 0-6, 0-6. I had nothing left in my legs after the 3 hours epic first round match while Mejia had a bye. This is very similar to the North Miami Opens where I won an epic match in the first round before having nothing left in the 2nd match.
Mejia is a very good player. He was decked out in all brand new Babolat clothes, shoes, racquets. He even had them strung up and inside the plastic like the pros
He was good, but not insane. He said he went to the Sony Open as a hitting partner with Djokovic, Dolgopolov, Vesnina, Makarova, Suarez Navarro, and Huber/Raymond. So this is no ordinary 14 years old. He is going to be an incredibly good player.
First set, first game, I served, won the first point, 15-0. Then, DF, I could not push off with my legs. 15-15. Next point, good rally, 30-15. Next point, another DF, nothing in the legs, 30-30. He ends up breaking me. In the first set, I was to 30 or at least one deuce in every single game, even his serve games. I was a step slow, and my changing directions was very poor. I could not do the quick movements needed to adjust to the shots.
The 2nd set I was toast. I could not push off at all, and after he broke me in the opening game, I thought to retire, but I played it out. At the handshake, I told him I had nothing left after the first round, and he said: "Yeah, they were telling me! You were done, man". Lol, even he knew it.
After the match we talked some where he told me about his hitting at the Sony. He is also going to play Junior Davis Cup for Colombia soon. As I left, I told him: "See you in Vero," referencing the next futures qualies.
So have you actually beaten anyone good yet?!
Yes. Just because I beat someone doesn't mean they are automatically a mug.
Btw Groove, how was he successful with 4 tries in a row? Were you allways expecting him to double bluff you in the next ROS?
To be fair to myself, they were 4 second serves.
Why are you playing 14-year olds?
You gotta play who is the next opponent.
Good seeing JG making some progress. Everything better than making career @ Domino's.
Looking forward to his next quests.
JG is currently holding ranking position 1115 in the USTA National Rankings.
He is also 11th in the NTRP 5.0 rankings.
1115 in the National? Where did you see this at? I didn't even know.
