I used to love all sports, but now tennis and racing are about the only two I really watch as well as UConn.
Tennis fortunately isn't as corrupt as other sports. There are problems - and a bit of greed of the tournament directors, ATP, and players - but definitely not like in other sports.
And the greed in tennis for the players is more that the players are on their own - they aren't part of a team so they have to live in a bubble of just themselves and their own entourage just to survive. They don't make the money like in other sports (unless they are one of the very top players).
I don't think we can be friends anymore.
THE ARCH ENEMY OF ANYONE WITH A TINY BIT OF ORANGE IN THEIR HEART?
We play UConn next
The days of Gordon and Okafor still gave me nightmares
I definitely respect guys who stick it out all 4 years. Besides Carmelo, our guys do that here. Hakim Warrick stuck it out, Gerry McNamara (
) stuck it out. Guys like Nick Collison and Kirk Heinrich who played all four years (even if they are also the enemy
) definitely respected (even if Heinrich said some silly things like never being able to drink orange juice again
) Dwayne Wade was a senior when he was drafted too I think... unless I'm wrong. I remember watching 8 million pieces on him during the Final 4, lol. Was Okafor a senior? I think he was a junior... so few Huskies seem to stick around. Gordon was a junior too I think...
That's a huge reason why Gerry McNamara is so worshipped around here. He stayed and there was never any doubt that he was going to stay. This kid I know wrote a piece on him for SI on Campus that I would LOVE to get my hands on about how Gerry is like THE most beloved college player ever.
While I don't know about THAT (I think he's a tad biased), Gerry stays out of trouble, he goes to class, he works incredibly hard, and he gives us his all on the court, and he was here for us to depend on. Last night, we all knew he was injured and we desperately wanted him to play the last possession to shoot our winning basket. We were like "PUT HIM IN A WHEELCHAIR AND LET HIM SHOOT IF WE HAVE TO." We trust in Gerry in a wheelchair more than an entire team of other able players.. he's developed, he's a leader... and now I am just ranting on Gerry McNamara...
