Re: Bonnie the Cat's, formerly know as Stupid Dream - PROG ROCK thread!

One of the many reasons why I love Steven Wilson's works - his relentless rants about/against stupid commercialism, $$$$-driven attempts on 'music' - you know, how important is to look 'great' and be able to 'dance'. WTF.
Yes, that's sooo important when it comes to producing 'good' music.

Here are a few of those:

"Four chords that made a million"

"Piano Lessons" - "Get ready to be sold!"

And of course,

"The Sound of Muzak"

Oh man.

The guy's one of the last men standing.

"Music of rebellion makes you wanna rage,
but it's made by millionaires nearly twice your age..."

"It's getting colder, I'm getting colder, older, it's getting colder...

Am I still here? As one, with The Fear?
Am I still alive? I'm still f*cking ... Here...!"

^^ Indeed.

Well now time for me to draw some attention to a totally 'unknown' band -

Dutch/Frysian band Flamborough Head

Gentle and lovely, especially the fantastic guitars by Mr. Eddie Mulder...

Re: Bonnie the Cat's, formerly know as Stupid Dream - PROG ROCK thread!

To those who might be interested, a I've posted a (rather silly ) review of the ultimately gorgeous ProgFarm Festival at my blog - and it's quite funny to see the band has actually copied parts of it in their guestbook!

Dixit the band/organizers:
"Hi K., thanks so much for your link to your review about ProgFarm! A nice and funny read! Our excuses that we ran out of the wine... after reading all those reactions and reviews, we actually nearly felt sorry that we've felt forced to put ProgFarm to an end..."

Edo & Margriet...

Am I still alive? I'm still f*cking ... Here...!"

Following on from the religion thread, have you got any prog that relates to the Day of Judgement or burning in the fiery pits of Hell?

Plenty of those!

One of the best of all of them, not so much debunking 'religion' at all, but rather bashing those who think that they are 'better' persons because of being religious... of course, Steven Wilson's Porcupine Tree manages this job very well.

Here's their Halo:

The text to this song is over here. Ultimate, spot-on sarcasm.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I read that back in 2008, Mr. Wilson actually got into trouble when touring in the US, because of so-called... blasphemy because of this particular song.
Way to miss the message!

Exactly. And I happen to love it, but well, what else can one expect from a designated "witch"?

Re: Bonnie the Cat's, formerly know as Stupid Dream - PROG ROCK thread!

Indeed.

However, considering my father built a chapel [although it is 'non-denominational' and as I said in the thread, he liked the design and he's not religious at all] (My dad built a chapel...) and my current job is trying to market it and raise awareness of it, I feel like a bit of a hypocrite trashing religion.

I failed to say that I am an ordained reverend too - you can buy an ordainment on the Net for $3

Anyway, I digress. Do you like Tool? Along with Dream Theater, they were actually my first foray into 'prog'.

Tool? Oh sure! Entirely LOVE their Lateralus and Aenima, especially.

To keep it in spirit of the current discussion elsewhere... how about -

Die Eier Von Satan -exquisite industrial metal/prog crossover. WOW!

I wonder how many folks will be putting their utmost best into trying to misunderstand this song, too. -

Gotta go now, bedtime for me, hope to see you around soon again!

Okay, after the musical 'witchcraft' (and perhaps non-musical 'witchcraft' just the same ) I've posted recently, how about something genuinely lovely, beautiful, and 'uplifting'?

Ah, Anathema's Dreaming Light - so lovely, so gentle - so spiritual.

Band will be playing Amsterdam's Paradiso, 28th April 2012 - and yes, I've already got my tickets secured.

Re: Bonnie the Cat's, formerly know as Stupid Dream - PROG ROCK thread!

How about some genuine symphonic Opera Metal?

Therion, a Swedish band I've had the pleasure of seeing performing live many times, and quite a few of their albums are absolute classics within the genre, namely, Theli, Vovin, Secret of the Ruins, & Live in Midgard. Just to name a few.
Even more, their live shows are always just so much fun to watch!

Here's a live version of "The Wine of Aluqah"

And, from that same festival - "The Rise of Sodom and Gomorra"

Symphonic OPERA metal, yay man, great!!!
(I was there. Yes, these are live recordings, the band is just fantastic live. Then, and still.)

BTW, that red-haired 'fat' lady singing the solo part at 2:50? That's the lovely Mrs. Sarah Jezebel Deva. One of the greatest female voices I've ever heard, especially live. She never fails to deliver.

Another Opera Gothic Prog song -

Nemesea's fantastic "Threefold Law", released in 2004, unfortunately went unnoticed by the major public. What else is new.

Lovely, beautiful Lady Manda Ophuis, what a singer!

Send more of these kind of 'witches'.
