Re: Stupid Dream's PROG ROCK thread!

Alan Parsons project's stature between prog rock greats is about the same as Camel, I'd say. A 2nd echelon band, but very enjoyable.

As I mentioned Camel, here goes some nice stuff from them:

Camel has some nice stuff.

Emerson or Wakeman?

This man was a BEAST:

Six Wives of Henry VIII Solo :-: Rick Wakeman (w/ Yes in concert)

Re: Stupid Dream's PROG ROCK thread!

I think Wakeman was underused as a keyboardist in Yes. His first two solo albums are way better than anything he has ever done in Yes. I believe he didn't have much space to manouver, as it could be said. Moraz showed in one album much more than Wakeman showed in many albums, in my opinion.

That said, Wakeman is a monster, as his solo albums show.

Emerson > Wakeman in their bands, but it's an unfair comparison, as Emerson was way more pivotal to ELP than Wakeman to Yes.

Let me guess. Close To The Edge?

It's that or Roundabout. I haven't pressed play yet.

Close To The Edge is one of the best songs ever. Probably inside the top 3 of prog rock. To be honest I can't find words to describe how good it is. Probably the sum of all Yes' career.

Totally agree. I choose Roundabout because Karin posted Close to the edge on the first page of the thread

Close to the Edge is a fitting definition for total insanity.

Spot on, totally agree.

For me they're both at the same level of genius and greatness, wouldn't really give either one any superiority versus the other.

This is the second part of what SD put on first page:

Close to the Edge part.2 :-: Yes

Re: Stupid Dream's PROG ROCK thread!

Wow, so great to see so much Yes Love around here. Yes was my very first music love, at the wee age of around 12, 13... a long time ago.
i've lost sight of them after 2000 or so, but will never forget what they've meant for my discovery of the beautiful music that is PROG.

Okay, some contemporary prog here:

Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere (live!)

"It's getting colder, I'm getting colder, older, it's getting colder...

Am I still here? As one, with The Fear?
Am I still alive? I'm still f*cking ... Here...!"

"The Storm Before The Calm"

Anathema
