Before Sunrise (1995)

The premise of the film sounds simple. A man and lady meet on a train and decide to get off together at Vienna, and spend the night walking around and getting to know each other. This is a dialogue and character driven film and the dialogue is utterly amazing - Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy have great chemistry also. An instant favourite for me.

Django Unchained. One of the few movies during which I didn't fall asleep in the recent years. Tarantino is a bloody genius IMO. Very well done.

rate it 8.5/10

Skyfall.

Quality film, best Bond film of Craigs reign as Bond imo. The bit at the end is sad as hell but I aint gonna spoil. First time I've been close to tears at a film since Black Beauty died.

Mark Lenders banged your girlfriend, I'm sorry to tell you that mate.

Olympus has fallen

Foreigners do bad shit, a lone Scotsman pretending to be an American kicks some butt and raises the stars and stripes. So a pretty typical ultra realistic Hollywood movie.

For more simplistic, beautiful and poignant romantic films, shying away from sentimentality, seek Clint Eastwood's The Bridges of Madison County.

Pretty weird and familiar referencing at least 10 sci-fi movie's, don't expect this kind of weirdness from a big budget hollywood pic, see it for yourself.

After a second viewing, I like it a lot now. Great Q.T dialogue as usual. Even Leo wasn't too bad. The funniest/saddest thing is S.L. Jackson's devotion to his "master" despite his bondage. Just unreal that people can be brainwashed that way. Excellent and biting social commentary by Q.T. on the sad reality of American slavery, done with comic genius.

well done and fun movie, monster sci-fi horror with plenty of humor. Some social and political commentary as well. I heard there is a sequel this year. It's strange I missed the first part when it came out.

This year will be interesting, with new films of Coen brothers, Takashi Miike, Polanski and Soderbergh. Is anyone going to be in Cannes this year in May??

Re: Last Movie you watched, and what you thought about it?

Early Summer (1951)

Very thematically similar to Late Spring, but a little more lighthearted, and, perhaps, optimistic. Ozu once again deals with the ideas of marriage being a social constrain and also the inevitability of families slowly drifting apart, due to obligation and conformity. The ending is absolutely beautiful and the film contains more moving shots than Tokyo Story, Late Spring and Tokyo Twilight combined. Sometimes I just wish Ozu moved the camera on a more regular basis; the panning shots are divertingly gorgeous.

Re: Last Movie you watched, and what you thought about it?

Fires on the Plain (1959)

For its time, shockingly violent and bleakly disturbing. A film that depicts the sheer filth, horror, and trepidation of the closing stages of World War II in Japan. Ichikawa witnessed the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki firsthand, so his vision is anything but inaccurate. It's also adeptly shot, containing some orgasmic tracking shots.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm a fan of Eastwood films and have yet to see that film!

Pretty weird film, but it's supposed to be because it's surrealism, so if you are into that sort of thing then check it out, I would also recommend it as one of the films from 2012 that everyone should see.
