Austria´s 16 years old Dominic Thiem has won his first match as a professional tennis player. He recieved a WC in Kitzbühel and beat Alexandre Sidorenko 3:6 7:6 6:4
He never played a Future match but will recieve 8 points for winning the first round. His next opponent is Victor Crivoi.
In Wimbledon and Roland Garros he practiced with Roger Federer and in Paris with Rafael Nadal.
Good luck!
a local austrian newspaper interviewed domi's coach (bresnik) yesterday. when asked if the split with gulbis may be a disadvantage for dominic (lack of practice partner, etc.), bresnik said that it's no problem at all: at the practice space at home in vienna (it's called "südstadt") thiem in future will practice with bedene. and at the tour top players are fighting to be able to practice with domi
Love the clutchness Thiem had and had quite a good serve IMO. More potent and fast I think than last year, at least from what I observed. First Masters QF in a time where you think he's in a big slump (but he could still be so should try to keep that consistency). Was more smart by getting the right defense too and mixed it up more. Hope that this is the end of the "Bad Year".
Dominic said that practicing with Roger would be pretty intensive and every ball against him an experience.
Thiem's coach Bresnik adds that Roger would spoil them, would be totally uncomplicated, friendly and funny. They would chat about football, making jokes but as soon as they are on the court they are getting serious.
Bresnik also mentions that they have the whole club for themselves - just 2 players and 2 coaches.
i dont get why he'd do that. it looks so bad. if he wanted to try something different couldnt her at least dye all his hair? not that i think he'd make a good blonde
6/3 3/1 against Dusan Lajovic. Dusan was pretty tired after his last week of playing Davis Cup in Argentina and traveling with a though jet lag. It's not easy to evaluate my personal performance, my second serve was pretty good, I hit some winners, I felt pretty good during the match, but I am not sure if my performance was so good because of me or because Dusan was so tired. Greetings from Umag
Never fun to win by retirement, but at least he's alive to play the next round.
