Re: Thread for all NICOLAS KIEFER supporters

Kiwi is improving, but Roddick is a great player. I hope, Nicolas has better draw in the next events, and to continue advancing in the Indesit ATP Race. He can come back to Asia, after the US Open, where he has obtained some good results a couples of years ago.
Go Kiefer!

yeah, that's bad losing three times to the same playing within a few days, but not many players can beat Roddick and unfortunately Kiwi is not yet among those. At least his last two matches have been MUCH closer than his match at the RCA Championships where he was without any chance.
He had many break points but couldn't convert any. There are several players who have just one or even no break points against Roddick in the whole match, so Kiwi did pretty well and if he keeps on playing like that it will be only a matter of time when he breaks Roddick for the first time. But IMO first preference for him is still to consolidate his own service game. I didn't see his last matches, but going by the stats of the livescores of Canada and Cincinnati TMS, his service performance already improved dramatically, but still, especially from the Canada TMS I have the feeling that his own service games need to be more dominant. If he can improve in this category I'll like his chances that he can win against many more opponents (except God himself = Federer ) on hardcourt because he is running a very good tiebreak record this season at 14-8, too. He was just even or even negative in 2002 (5-11) so that's already a good improvement

Re: Thread for all NICOLAS KIEFER supporters

I just wanted to pop in and say hello! I just found this thread / forum like two days ago and I'm thrilled to have found so many Kiefer fans! I'm in the USA so pretty much everyone I know cheers solely for Roddick which is has sucked terribly the last few weeks with just me cheering for Kiefer and everyone else going for Andy. Ugh.
But anway! I wanted to say hello and I hope to have a lot of fun here with some other fans!!!!
I'm planning on going up to the US Open since I live only 2 hours away so I hope to get to see Nicolas play there!

Hi Neely, welcome back! Let's hope Kiefer is going to be ok health-wise for the Olympics

My German guys are like the cast of the Wizard of Oz:

Rainer = Lion
Kiwi = Scarecrow
Tommy = Tin Man
Flo = Dorothy

...but I still love 'em

Re: Thread for all NICOLAS KIEFER supporters

Kiwi writes on his homepage that he is looking forward to the Olympics. His goal is being better than in 2000, when he had a 1st round exit (lol, well, I also hope that he achieves that )
He is glad that he will have the opportunity to enjoy the whole Olympic environment and he will also look for other events and athletes. For example, he will be cheering for Franzi van Almsick and Hannah Stockbauer (swimming), for the German women's soccer team, and for the German handball team.

His inflamation of the middle ear and his cold he caught in the States (because of the air-conditionings) is already getting better with the medicaments he got from the doctor and he writes the the doctor even advised him to eat a lot of ice-cream

Kiwi will have a single room in Athens that nobody is in danger that he is passing his virus to somebody.

I hope Kiwi will have a good Olympics and I hope that TV shows a lot of tennis then

Re: Thread for all NICOLAS KIEFER supporters

I don't post much, but always read here. Thank you Neely for providing translations from his homepage. For us non german speakers, the translations are horrible and I never know exactly what he is saying.

Good to know he is feeling better and surely he will get past the 1st round unless he gets Andy in the 1st rnd

Re: Thread for all NICOLAS KIEFER supporters

I am going to TD Waterhouse for two days!!! I hope I get to see Kiwi while I'm there.

BTW, does Nicolas actually go by "Kiwi" or is that just a tennis fan nickname bestowed upon him?

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

I don't really get the meaning of the word "bestowed" (no dictionary in my reach at the moment), but this is more than just a "tennis fan nickname" and he likes it, so don't be afraid to use it... it's a nickname since many years that became sort of his 2nd name and most friends, teammates (and I'm sure many other players also) call him like that. This nickname is nothing bad for him, he agrees with it and he doesn't feel offended by it if you call him that way so don't be shy to use it. Also if you look at his homepage he even signs his entries with "euer Kiwi". Therefore, if he wouldn't like he wouldn't use it. But still I also like calling him by his true name Nicolas, last year when I was at Halle I shouted to him a few times "good luck, Nicolas" and not "good luck, Kiwi" when I saw him walking around before one of his matches. But if you use his first name and not his nickname, be careful to pronounce it the French way, spoken "Nicola", and neglect the 's'

12.08.2004 : Olympia: Kiwi beginnt gegen Georgier Labadze
they write that Kiwi feels very comfortable in the Olympic Village, but that he still has a few problems with the after-effects of his cold and inflamation of the middle ear. Therefore, he just practised for a short time on Thursday with his coach Thomas Hogstedt.

so you're basically asking what people think about his draw?
well, I think that his draw could have come much worse. Sure is Labadze not one of the easiest non-seeded players, but Labadze didn't have good results for a very long time and there are also many stronger opponents than him. Also a possible 2nd round match up against either Carraz or Baghdatis is not too bad. I think he can live with this draw, it's not bad and could have come much worse.
