Maybe it would be clever to say no to Cincy.

But first his focus should be on trying the best for today. Simon isn't that easy and we know that Kiwi usually has more problems when playing a soft hitter.

Carlos --- C'MON Lleyton!!! --- Kiwi!!! --- Jürgen --- Juan

Best of luck to all Germans : Nicolas Kiefer | Rainer Schüttler | Lars | Florian | Tommy

I wouldn't be too unhappy if he won today's match and then lost the Cincy 1R one.

Expected 3rd set TB win.

Geeze, I almost died!

Kiefer drop shots and lobs Simon out of the tournament, but only because the frenchman didn't seem willing to accept Kiefer's choking gift. Man, that was nervewrecking. I don't care what happens tomorrow.

Congrats for making your first Masters final. Better late than never.

I'll probably root for Murray tonight, although I don't really like him too much.

What a match. I'm glad that Simon missed this overhead at 5:4 and 15:15 in the final set. First Masters Series final for Kiwi...Nadal looks unbeatable but let's see.

Re: Kiwi's summer hardcourt season 2008 (currently playing: Toronto)

Towel, please!

It wasn't TOTALLY convincing. He should have served out and not gotten that tight when it mattered. But at the end I'm of course glad that another choke-like performance like against Seppi -needless to say it was a similiar player type as Simon- did not happen today.

The match had lows and highs from both players, but I totally loved some shots of Kiwi he was hitting. Not only the dropshots, also some things like a confident forehand or a good backhand longline which was played with determination.

Carlos --- C'MON Lleyton!!! --- Kiwi!!! --- Jürgen --- Juan

Best of luck to all Germans : Nicolas Kiefer | Rainer Schüttler | Lars | Florian | Tommy

Honestly, I did not think anymore that I was going to erleben such a result of Kiwi anymore.

Even better that he finally made it, although it probably just means lost final #10 in a row, but he may not think like that and should see it as a positive happening to be there.

Yes, that overhead smash could have put him under pressure on serve. We better not did see what would have happened after that. It could be Kiwi pulled himself out again, or in the same vein, the match could have been over a minute later.

I rate his chances against Nadal almost zero, Murray would be the better opponent for him. Simply because he isn't that strong mentally and his overall play isn't at the level of Nadal's consistency.

Re: Kiwi's summer hardcourt season 2008 (currently playing: Toronto)

I am hoping they're showing this match at midnight. They keep promoting it during the current Nadal/Murray match, but they're not saying what they're showing. Hopefully it'll be Kiwi since they didn't show it live. If not, at least I get to see him tomorrow!

To anyone who was a regular in the "I hate Kiwi" thread, we brought it back in GM for celebrations.

Re: Kiwi's summer hardcourt season 2008 (currently playing: Toronto)

what a surprise to see Kiwi in the TMS final

as much as I want him to win a title again (after such a long time), to beat Nadal will be a very tough task So I am already very happy with his result and won't be too disappointed if he loses in the final.

Good luck Kiwi

GOOD LUCK: Nicolas Kiefer- Tommy Robredo- Andy Roddick- Andre Agassi- Andrei Pavel- Juan Carlos Ferrero- Dominik Hrbaty- Mardy Fish

Re: Kiwi's summer hardcourt season 2008 (currently playing: Toronto)

All right, Kiwi lost which had to be expected. I feel he should have done more in this fifth game of the 2nd set, but overall it would have been probably too tough to win against Nadal anyway.

No big reason to be disappointed, neither for fans or Kiwi himself. He seemed to have enjoyed the week and I have some good hope that he can look back to this happening with a positive attitude.

During his speech he was saying something like: "Thanks to the ball kids and linespeople, I know I was ugly sometimes with you, but I reached the final, so it wasn't too bad"

And he also had some warm words to Rafa. I think he wouldn't have said it like that to everybody, they also chatted a bit more while presenting their trophies for the photographers. So together with what we saw after their other matches, it seems they're getting along quite well.

Also while posing for the photographers, I think Nadal was asking him if he's going somewhere, maybe the tournament-ending party. Kiwi said something and then Nadal said like "okay, see you there". I'm not sure if I got this right at all because it was almost inaudible due to the background noise and the microphone being further away. Maybe somebody else understood more than me.

Re: Kiwi's summer hardcourt season 2008 (currently playing: Toronto)

I tried not to get my hopes up between last night and today, and I failed.

I knew he wouldn't win, but I was hoping for three sets. Oh well... I'm still very very proud of him for this achievement.

If anyone had video of his speech, can you post it? ESPN2 decided not to show the ceremony... as usual.
