Re: Kiwi Down Under

Thanks for the impressions, Henry. It's always sad to see him losing like that. Especially in the end of the third set he could or did not want to go to returns landing just 2 or 3 meters next to him and just stood there watching them go by him

Really disappointing overall, but this was also a different Ferrero compared to two years ago where almost all serves of him were returnable and Kiwi himself had an awesome serving day! Ferrero looks really better in this tournament so far than in many so far in the past.

Carlos --- C'MON Lleyton!!! --- Kiwi!!! --- Jürgen --- Juan

Best of luck to all Germans : Nicolas Kiefer | Rainer Schüttler | Lars | Florian | Tommy

No problem, he couldn't do exactly much so far this season

I hope he gets a break soon that he can play for the rest of the season without any problems and -most important- be injury-free for the Olympics.

Re: Kiwi Down Under

All three Germany ties are in the European night, what a bad scheduling. I hope there will be a stream for the mixed this time at least.

Re: Kiwi Down Under

Meanwhile, there was drama on the other court when German Nicolas Kiefer badly injured his ankle in his match against Dominik Hrbaty, sending the Slovak Republic into the Hopman Cup final.

Up 3-1 in the first set, Kiefer twisted his right ankle in an innocuous incident, and had to be taken off court in a wheelchair.

Obviously unable to continue, the German team had to withdraw, handing the Slovaks a berth in tomorrow's final.

Re: Kiwi Down Under

Oh no, seems serious the injured ankle

I wonder if he can still compete in the AO or not.
Damn, I was excited already to watch him live in AO in 2 weeks time, now it might not happen

Re: Kiwi Down Under

All Hopman Cups are ending with retirements from German players it seems. I thought he already has strong tapes on his ankles for every match, so I thought we won't see those injuries again. Now the DC seems to be in danger again.

Re: Kiwi Down Under

2 torn ligaments and a cut (not torn) string. He still has a very little hope to be able to compete in the Australian Open but he also fears that he might need a surgery. He will go to Melbourne on saturday to meet with his physio Gabriel there.
For these kind of injuries the most importand first aid is to put ice on it. The earlier you put ice on it the faster it will heal later. As far as the news are telling Hrbaty was the first to help him. He made sure that Kiwi immediately gets ice on his ankle. Maybe his immediate help gave Kiwi a good chance for a quick comeback
This is just so sad. What did he do to deserve so much bad luck??

Re: Kiwi Down Under

Oh man, horrible stuff

What I don't understand is how he can think of the Australian Open at the moment Isn't a torn ligament at least 4 weeks minimum?

Damn, but sounds bad...

yes, should be at least 4 weeks. We don't know what the doctors told him. As far as I know you can only see how serious this injury really is after the swelling is gone which usually takes 2 days. Maybe the doctors said it looks like the ligaments are torn but it's possible that you are lucky and after 2 days we can see that they are not completely torn Hrbaty said he had a similar injury and was able to run after only one week. But Kiwi had a surgery for the same injury on that same ankle a few years ago already. I think this will make it more difficult this time.
