Re: Au revoir et Bercy...

Well What a nail biting performance, especilly when in the final set Ascione had 3 match points but Marat came back to take it to the winning tie break, which means we get to see him again on Wednesday, lets hope he sends Del Pot packing back to Argentina
There is a good match on at the moment, another one of my old favourites,Sebastion Grosjean against Ljubicic,Ist round tie break just starting.

Good Luck Marat for your next match.GO GET HIM!!!!!!!

Re: Au revoir et Bercy...

He never makes it easy for himself, does he? Particularly after such a lovely start in the first set. Told Aunty Denise that I've got a blonde on ice for him.

There was a few lovely net shots in the match, particularly to wrap up the first set and the match (just for me, obviously ...) But the three match points choked me, thankfully not my Big Pixie though. See, Big Yin, you can pull through under pressure. Just don't keep doing it when it's unnecessary!!!

Now it's Del Pony, and hopefully a night match ...

Re: Au revoir et Bercy...

They showed some footage of Marat's warm up with Roger on tv. It was nice to see them all smile.

Did he warm up with Roger before today's match?

Re: Au revoir et Bercy...

Hi everyone!
I'm just back from Marat's match: it was great even if the stadium was quite empty. It seemed to me that the crowd (who wasn't asleep) was more cheering him especially when he had to face the MPs. After the match, he was so kind with all the people signing tons of autographs and offering his towel to a girl who nearly had an heart attack! And during the on court itw he said for his match against Del Potro "at least it won't be too difficult to loose" with a big smile on his face...

Re: Au revoir et Bercy...

YAY! Marat won! And he didn't choke in the 3rd set!!!

I wasn't around to watch it on livestream, but I'm kinda glad I didn't have to suffer and pull out my hair through that. I'll try to be around for the next one against Del Potro.

After reading through many of his post-match moaning comments, this is the one that got me laughing:
Quote:
Asked if he would emulate fellow former world number one Andre Agassi and come up with a book full of revelations, Safin said: “I guess I have to retire and then after a few years I’ll write an autobiography with some confessions. If I need money, I’ll do that.”

Yeah, right.

OMG I didn't have the energy to stay up late.

Hurray for Marat! I hate his draw!
Thank God he didn't choke or else I would've choked literally

Re: Au revoir et Bercy...

I was on the telephone with Customer Service at a vendor company while I watched the livestream. It was all I could do during the MP's not to scream into the ear of the poor rep on the other end. I kept hoping they'd place me on hold so I could watch, throw things, huff, puff, etc. without an audience (ha).

Regarding the match: he looked genuinely worried a few times. This is a good thing, though. It means he cared . It's been so interesting watching him this year live at Roland Garros and Cincy and on television other times. There were a few matches where I'm quite convinced he gave up early just to get out of that particular town. Then, other times, he looked positively dejected when the switch clicked and he realized he was going to lose the match -- or even if he won but was playing subpar. Today was like the latter. He looked nervous!

So excited for Wednesday! Juan Martin reminds me more than a little of Marat at his age, particularly because of the height and build. He walks the same. Although I wouldn't wish it, I could handle Marat losing to DelPo, as it would kind of be like handing over the reins to the next generation. Losing today would've just been abysmal, as Ascione seemed a little too smug about being the one to end Marat's career. He certainly wasn't worthy of the "honor." Did anyone else feel this way?

His switch on/off the whole match -- like he couldn't make up his mind if he's gonna win or lose. That's not going to be the same story with JMdP cos he will not let Marat make all the decisions.

I find it's funny sometimes that Dinara is doing the same thing -- playing alone -- winning or losing is up to her, the opponent is not relevant.

Sorry Mary, but according to Aunt Denise in Paris it's going to be in the afternoon

Yeah, I did and I think he did too. Like he said he wants to leave with some dignity and losing to DelPony is no shame, it's ok

Re: Au revoir et Bercy...

Marat visited l'Equipe yesterday and there is a whole page about him today.
If I have some time tomorrow, I might translate some of it or at least post the articles.
