I'll have to call my internet service provider and thank them for cutting my internet at 2-2 in the 2nd set - they saved me a lot of stress. I had to rely on ESPN and all they did was give a depressed sounding score update once every 1/2 hour. They only showed the last game. But I got to see plenty of Bethanie's tube socks.

So how did Marat play the last 3 sets? Was he at least trying and fighting?

He was fighting in the 2nd but after he got broken it was all downhill. Not as bad as the complete giving up we saw against Steps in Cinci but still he was frustrated, rushing, etc. No racket breaks though. Just one warning for shooting the ball out of the stadium.

I felt really sad for him. He looked deflated at the change-overs.

A Tweet from ATP Twitter: Asked what advice he'd give his No. 1 ranked sister, Dinara, Safin quips: "I wasn't there for a long time, so I cannot give her any advice at all."

As for his play, he didn't seem too pissed off, (I think I was more so ) But there was still some glimpses of his ability, and he sure had some spunk going for some shots, it was just cruel luck (or his fatigue)that they missed the line.

Coming into this match, all I wanted from him was to try hard and not tank. It appears I got my wish - I feel a bit better now.
