Re: Dinara Part 2

New Haven R1 "Revenge": Dinara def Franny 1-6 6-3 6-1.

I was stuck looking at the scoreboard for this - all the livestreams died just before she went on. From what I could tell watching the scoreboard, she was a real mess the 1st set. They kept waffling in the 2nd trading breaks. Dinara was serving for the 2nd at 5-2 and was broken (of course! ), then broke Franny to take the set. Then Franny just seemed to dismantle in the 3rd. I wish could have watched the 3rd set - she did good!

Dinara gets Hantuchova in R2, likely on Wednesday.

Re: Dinara Part 2

Dinara's "road" to defending her US Open R3 points -->

Dinara did beat Hantuchova this week 7-6(4) 7-6(2). Maybe having success against her recently will help her.

In retrospect, her loss to Kvitova last year at the USO doesn't look quite so bad. Kvitova wasn't ranked much higher this year at Wimbledon when made the SF bageling Azarenka and Wozniacki along the way, and giving Serena a very tiny scare.

Re: Dinara Part 2

Update: Dinara lost in R1 to Hantuchova 3-6 4-6 on Monday. She was fighting until the end, but she just didn't have it that day. Dinara was also supposed to play R1 doubles today with Azarenka, but we all know what happened there (poor Vika ).

Re: Dinara Part 2

Dinara is in Seoul and here's a brief interview with her posted by Elena on atptour.ru
Marat has been coaching her a WHOLE week As Elena said "and they both survived"

Re: Dinara Part 2

Dinara def. Makiri 6-2, 6-3

From her interview;

Quote:
Q7. There are a lot of fans of Safin in Korea. How is Safin doing nowadays?

A7. He’s doing good. He’s in Moscow. Until yesterday, he’s been working with me for a week. So it was really nice for me because he’s never been a coach. He’s pretty tough. I really enjoyed so much and he really put so much desire and heart. From my side I was little bit surprised but he really enjoyed.

From here

Safin: I can't say that I coached Dinara before the tournament in Seoul. I only helped her in Moscow.
Probably an interview will follow on sport-express.ru

Re: Dinara Part 2

Awww! Marat and Dinara practiced together and lived to speak about it - how cute! She looked so happy talking about practicing with him in the video.

Seoul QF: Dinara lost to Zakopalova 5-7 3-6.

Re: Dinara Part 2

Dinara posted on her OS Thursday that she's done for the season -- back injury again.
Quote:
Hey everybody. Just thought I'd give you an update on my status. Unfortunately, my back injury is acting up again and I've decided not to play any more tournaments the rest of the season. It has been the worst year of my career mainly because of my injury that has kept me away from several tournaments and kept me from playing my game of tennis. I am sorry for the fans that expected me to continue on the same track as the last two years. I will heal my back and prepare for 2011, when I intend to show my real value to the tennis fans all over the world.
I feel really bad for her after reading those last 2 sentences.
