For me personally the final straw might be today's voting on anti-adoption proposal

I arrived at breaking point after the Pussy Riot remarks, but I just don't want to let go.

Re: the Dima Yakovlev law, someone tweeting from Russia this morning has put it in a nutshell: "My favourite tennis player Marat Safin has ceased to exist for me. #lawscoundrels"

A list of the initiators of this legislation, which includes Marat by the way, can be found here on Vedomosti. (Google translation)

Marat's entire voting history is contained on this webpage on Duma.gov.ru. (not yet updated for today) If you click on an item, you get a pie chart breakdown of votes for and against.

well, remarks I can forgive. It's only words after all, can't really hurt anyone. After today's voting however he'll be personally responsible for misery and death of tens if not hundreds of russian disabled orphans. This is compelety different matter.

Words are also deeds with occasionally tragic consequences. They are a window on character. Marat's dismissal of Pussy Riot showed a callous, arrogant, ignorant side to him that I hadn't seen, or even suspected, before. When a person like that is put in charge of human affairs, the outlook is fairly bleak.

I wasn't aware I had equated the one with the other.

It is painfully clear that looks don't make the man. His attitude is so depressing, but I suspect we just didn't want to admit he could be this callous. Apparently he can.

Re: News & Articles Part 3 - The Return of the Yeti

Marat's Wednesday began in the Duma with his first vote:
10:01:39
(Based on) About the order of the State Duma on December 19, 2012
For
Grand total: Adopted
- no doubt the first few votes of the day were procedural pertinent to the previous session....then he went on to vote 65 + times For the many densely bureaucratic amendments right up to his last active vote of the day:
17:35:52
D1 (2 reading) of the Federal Law № 186614-6 "On measures against persons involved in the violation of fundamental human rights and freedoms, rights and freedoms of citizens of the Russian Federation"
For
Grand total: Adopted
After which he presumably went home because he abstained from the last few votes - including:
17:48:51
(First reading) Draft Federal Law № 295503-5 "On the restriction on production of erotic and pornographic"
Did not vote
Grand total: Rejected

On Wednesday he abstained from around 27 votes - now that is a lot of button-pushing for one day....what's interesting is that the voting seems to take place every few minutes - so clearly they aren't debating or reviewing the contents of each of these proposals...presumably this voting in the Duma is automatic based on previous committee meetings or debates?- when I have more time it may be interesting to have a closer look at what he is voting FOR and what he is abstaining from - although I fear what that will reveal....

Re: News & Articles Part 3 - The Return of the Yeti

One thing about the twitter...
I dont think it's Marat ... He's not a kind of a guy who " can you take a photo of me doing this etc , I want to tweet photo of myself "
But well who knows ....

Re: News & Articles Part 3 - The Return of the Yeti

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty certain that the ONLY photos "Marat" has tweeted are press photos...nothing "personal" like a selfie on the leather sofa with Fenusya on his knee......we used to be able to rely on DInara for those shots but she has stopped - wonder why?

Him not voting was also in accordance with the party line.

If I wanted to propose a 'conspiracy' theory - given the ruling party's attitude to 'free speech' and social media in particular, they may well have issued a decree that any ER associate or member of the Duma had to hand over their twitter accounts to their lackeys - do you really think that Medvedev and Putin actually compose and post their own tweets? Marat maybe insignificant in comparison to them - but for sure the party cannot be blind to the fact that he has an international following (dwindling, it would seem) and may be sensitive to that fact ....while he was never very active on facebook, pretty much the only things appearing on his wall these days are automatically generated horoscopes, and he appears to have gone 'dark' on his VKontact and Odnoklassniki pages too - you would have thought he was too busy for social media these days.....anyhow...just sayin!
I think you're absolutely right. Btw thanks for the Duma webpage links, monkey!

Маша, политика грязное дело, но то, что сейчас происходит в думе, это уже за гранью добра и зла. Это не люди, это мрази.

Я понимаю, что ты зла. Поверь, эстонский "демократический" парламент ничуть не лучше.
I am sorry for those Russian disabled orphans too but try to calm down ladies, I wish you all nice calm holidays.

Re: News & Articles Part 3 - The Return of the Yeti

...on a lighter note - may I wish everyone who still visits here in the hope that they will wake up one day and find Marat's regression into an ultra-conservative party moron turns out to be a B A D dream - and he's re-evolved back into the free thinking "I've tried everything there is to try already" hedonist we all once loved - a Happy and Safe New Year... may your dreams come to you - and if they don't, go out and hunt them down...... Peace!!

well - it's 'news' of sorts - guess he won't be too worried about being denounced as a scoundrel while shopping on 5th Avenue...https://twitter.com/alexklaw/status/290628848628936704
