Nor is Marat, apparently! Have a look at the Aegon thread. Wednesday he withdrew from Queens citing back injury. Thursday he's in Kazan, serving in a suit. (they made him an offer he couldn't refuse?!)

Good luck for your exams! Got many more?

The little boy bears a little too much resemblance to Marat

The main distinctive elements of Sabantuy include the traditional sporting competitions such as köräş (Tatar wrestling), horse racing, race-in-sack, pillar-climbing, egg-in-spoon-in-mouth-racing, sacks-battle on the crossbar, pots crashing [2], finding a coin in a qatıq (a beverage made from sour milk), and other contests. Such activities take place on the mäydan[1], which would usually be located at the edge of a forest.
Add pig racing and a demolition derby, and this would be just like my local county fair.

I think that's Eric Dane, aka Dr. Mark Sloan, aka "McSteamy" off Gray's Anatomy. I personally see no resemblance at all, and what's more, I get irrationally irritated by anyone who suggests it . Nobody compares to Marat! Nobody!

Re: 2009 Piccies Thread!!!

When I searched him i seen a lot of this "mcsteamy" but i have no clue what it means, i was sent this photo by my friend and thought to myself that at least he resembles more than that channing tatum guy (somebody mentioned on these boards before) but then on google images realized that he looks bugger all like him

Guy looks pretty old too, Marat isn't thaaaaat old yet

Totally agree! Another guy Marat gets compared to, for some mysterious reason, is Heath Ledger. (Eric Dane again, in the middle)

Just reposting this pic, as to me, it's one of the loveliest images of Safin I've ever seen. There's a sort of divine perfection to his face that is unrepeatable. The same can't be said of the other two, though they are obviously very attractive.

And 29 is spring-chicken like - from my perspective anyway

Re: 2009 Piccies Thread!!!

well, I'll have to admit, in certain scenes and angles, mcsteamy does resemble marat. just the general arrangement of the features, not the shape of the face

It really is but it's a shame tennis is a sport which players seem to drop off when they reach around 27.

Although it was earlier for Marat due to his knee

And Heath Ledger, emm I've heard that comparison before but don't really see it, although his smile in that photo seems kind of Marat like for some reason.

Re: 2009 Piccies Thread!!!

Part of the comparison between Heath Ledger and Safin is the "old soul" quality. There was this amazing quote in a GQ article years ago where someone said that life isn't as simple for Marat as it is for other players. He's intelligent, he reads, he's interested in art, there's a softness underlying all the racket tossing, life is about far more than tennis, etc. You can picture him sitting with you having tea and discussing Plato or Nietzsche. Sometimes he seems like a wise, time-hardened old man. And, yet, he sometimes seems like a little kid. Heath Ledger, by all accounts, seemed to have the same traits and depth of character. You could certainly never describe either of them as boring.

With McSteamy (a Grey's Anatomy nickname), it's the pure physical resemblance (their height, body build, etc. is very similar along with the facial hair). Plus, McSteamy has . . . ahem . . . a lot of girlfriends on the show .

Re: 2009 Piccies Thread!!!

Could anyone who speaks Russian tell us what the caption says? I have always wondered what the "eye" meant.
Plus he looks incredibly hot!

Caption doesn't say anything about the eye tatoo. And no, there has not been any evidence so far that this tattoo is related to tatar culture in particular. I suppose this is what interests you
