Damn, I just discovered the score. I thought for a couple of minutes he hadn't played yet.

Re: Pacific Life Open, Indian Wells .....*choke* *sputter* *cough*

I'm speechless this time. It was pretty close and I stayed up until 1:3 in the third although I felt like a rag. I don't really want him to retire but he's reaching new lows.I'd like to believe that he can still achieve something like a two match streak. But it's tough considering my own depression. Marat should learn how to help himself, he should be able to convert the chances he has because he lets them slip but he doesn't get too many further ones.

*sigh* Glad I didn't stay home for this Marat

hm, where to start, where to start...how much time do you have?

It's just you don't want to have a lot of expectations, because when you start to have a lot of expectations you just end up losing in the third round to God knows who. ~Marat Safin, summarizing his career

I think this is, officially, the most common sentence said by a Safinette

Is losing to a mug like Melzer a new low or has he been 'lower'? I cannot decide.
Anyway, very sad, simply very very sad.

If it's any comfort at all, which it probably won't be, he lost to Wesley Whitehouse, ranked c300in the US hard court season (Jul/Aug2006?) after which he sank to a ranking of about 104 then he came back to be ranked c25 by the end of the year.
That was then, this is now so probably not at all relevant. Melzer is one those players, though, who should be ranked a lot higher than he is - he can play very well but is very inconsistent - BUT really, Marat
