Cilla, Angele.... of course I'll pick you up at the airport! You guys can take my room, there are two beds.
Ooh, can I come too? Cilla and Angele can take one bed, and I'll share with Scott.
I have more girl friends than guy friends, but my guy friends are so much more relaxing to be around. They're a lot more, well, simple. And plus I can talk sports with them, whereas with the girls I can just feel my eyes glazing over when they start up with the makeup and hair crap.
I like my dad pretty well. He was a travelling salesman up until the time I was 6, which meant he wasn't home much, so we never really got that whole father-daughter bond thing down good. We get along okay most of the time. The big problem is that while I have more of my mom's personality (I'm just like a younger, taller version of her
) I have my dad's temperment, so we get pissed off at each other a lot. Patience is NOT a virtue either one of us posesses. We yell at each other a lot, particularly when we're working.
By the way, Marly, I finally sent your postcard yesterday!
Ah, I take it you don't need my address again then? I'm such a slack-ass when it comes to replying to PMs.
The commentators on LL's match Mark Petchey and Leif Shiras. I will deal with one involving Kim before I forget. Ok LL was starting to get a little down against Mantilla and Shiras had already mentioned previously that LL had spent the week he was ill with Kim in Palo Alto, Stanford. So anyway Petchey suggested that maybe the fact that he spent the week with Kim in Stan and the travel and the time difference had taken his toll. Then a few points elapsed and Petchey brought up the split with Darren Cahill he suggested that one of the reasons that trouble (or cracks began as Petch put it) Started to appear between Cahill and Lley was that he spent too much of his free time last year with Kim e.g spending a few extra days at one opf her tournies rather than coming to his own tournie and prepare apparantely Cahill didn't really like this. Opinions??
Well, I don't think that staying with Kim in Stanford had much, if anything, to do with Lleyton's loss. I just think he hasn't completely adjusted to the hard courts yet, and he's still feeling the effects of his illness. However, saying that, it might've been a better idea for Lleyton to leave a little earlier than he did, instead of staying for Kim's semi-final.
Now the rest of this is very, very interesting. Actually, Ingrid and I have discussed this several times before.
If my memory serves, Lleyton was with Kim in Stanford last year before flying to Toronto (or Montreal or whatever it was last year) and losing. After playing in Stanford, she lost in the 2nd round at the eStyle.com classic, whatever name that goes by now. I don't know what they did the rest of that week. Then Kim played the big women's tournament in Canada, and Lleyton played in Cincy. I don't remember if he played in Indianapolis last year, but if he did, we can safely assume he flew to Kim's tournament when he lost. She also played in a tournament the week before the Open; that's where she injured her hamstring and had to pull out in the SFs.
Anyways. My point is that whenever one of them lost early or had a week off, they were together.
I don't know if y'all ever heard this or not, but there was an incident during a practice session at one of these tournaments (maybe Ingrid remembers) between Lleyton and Cahill. Apparently, Cahill said something to him, and they got in an argument which ended when Lleyton fired a tennis ball at him and walked off.
This is where Ingrid and I came in. We figure, as this Petchey dude apparently does, that Cahill didn't like the fact that Lleyton was spending his free time with Kim. I guess he thought it was affecting Lleyton's tennis, and keeping him from focusing like Cahill thought he should. Our hypothesis is that Cahill brought it up and told Lleyton he needed to cut down on his Kim-time, or said something disparaging about her, etc. And of course, that pissed Lleyton off, and who can blame him? And it also pissed off Glynn and Cherilyn as it's obvious that they both adore Kim. I doubt it sat well with Kim herself, not that she would make an issue of it.
So, yeah. I think Petchey is right on the money with what he said. I don't think being with Kim affects Lleyton's tennis negatively (the opposite, in fact) but I think that their relationship grated on Cahill's nerves for some reason, be it in a personal or professional aspect, and was probably the main reason why he was replaced.
