Servus Gaston wilkommen zu Kitzbhuel

It's early I know, but Gaston will be playing in Sweden after Wimbledon, it seems that Mariano and my friends told him this is a cool tournament, which it is and the Swedes will have an opportunity to see him in Båstad.

I will translate some of the articles and put them in the interviews section.

Heja heja Gato.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Heja Gaston in Båstad

Are you really sure Gaston won´t change his tournament schedule after this big victory?

If he will play Båstad, I guess a lot of Swedes would be very happy:-)

Now why would he do that? He is going to enjoy some time at home, then make an appearance at Wimbledon and then play in Båstad. He seems to be a man of his word, so there would be no reason he would change.

Kom igjen Gato.

Re: Heja Gaston in Båstad

I think he will be playing in Båstad.

Gaston Gaudio vann Paris

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

I have also seen the headlines in the Swedish papers.
Expressen and Aftonbladet had both very good articles and pics,
it was much better than many other papers!

Heja Gaston i Swedish Open!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gaston Gaudio vann Paris

Here is an approximate English translation.

The people of Båstad are to be congratulated. The world's king of clay and winner of Roland Garros is Gaston Gaudio.

The unseeded Gaudio saved two match points against the favourite and fellow countryman Coria in the final of Roland Garros.

We are unbelievably happy to salute and welcome to Båstad for the first time a winner of Paris since the days of Wilander said tournament boss Thomas Wallén.

Gaudio began the final pitifully and was behind 2-0 in sets, but successfully turned it around. It was on the whole a strange match, when Coria affected by cramp and Gaudio applauded and smiled when the crowd did the wave.

Perhaps this turned the match?
After that I relaxed and attempted to enjoy the moment and it worked said Gaudio afterwards.

At the presentation he cried when the father of Argentine tennis Guillermo Vilas who won Paris 1977, gave out the prize toggether with John McEnroe.

The final finished with Gaudio's signature stroke, a classic single handed topspin backhand.

Three of the four semi finalists were Argentines. Three players playing in Båstad made the quarters besides Gaudio, Carlos Moya and Juan Ignacio Chela. Two more players playing in the Swedish Open made the fourth round namely Feliciano Lopez and Tommy Robredo.

Re: Gaston i Båstad, kom igen Gato

I posted this on the tournament forum, but I might as well do it here as well.

This was from the tournamet site. I had to adjust the fact that Gaudio is the French Open and they missed a few things. They are very happy with the line up, the article in Swedish then in English.

http://www.swedishopen.org/default.a...id=241&start=0

Tommy Robredo - Barcelonavinnaren
Juan-Ignacio Chela - Vinnaren i Estoril
Fernando Verdasco - Valenciamästaren
Filippo Volandri - Italiens etta som vann grusgenrepet i St Pölten
Nikolay Davydenko - segrare i München

Gruseliten talar i allmänhet spanska.

Not the best translation, but its a bit better than the free one.

Better and better in Båstad

During the week the announcement went out and this years starting field is stronger than most of the ATP tournaments.

The goal to be one of the five worlds best clay tournaments is on the way to be fulfiled.

The ranking border, the so-called cut off for direct qualification is 60. Apart from the French Open and the Masters Series no claycourt tournament has such a low cut off, said a proud tournament chief Thomas Wallén.

The tournament in Barcelona, which is known as the 5th best claycourt tournament has a cut off of 67 for their 23 best players, by the time announcements went out. Gstaad which competes with Båstad, has a 'cut off" of 95

The 2002 Båstad winner, Carlos Moya will play and the be the top seed in the Synsam Swedish Open. The competition includes eight ATP title winners this year.

Gaston Gaudio- French Open champion
Carlos Moya- winner of 3 titles including Rome
Dominik Hrbaty- Number 8 on the champions race with 3 titles
Fernando Gonzalez- Vina Del Mar winner
Tommy Robredo - Barcelona winner
Fernando Verdasco- Valencia winner
Fillipo Volandri- St Pölten
Nikolay Davydenko - Munich

The elite claycourters are generally Spanish speakers. The Chilean team who won the World Team Cup in Dusseldorf twice in a row, will have Fernando Gonzalez and Nicolas Massu playing in Båstad. The Argentines will have last years winner Mariano Zabaleta, Agustin Calleri finalist in Brazil and Gaston Gaudio runner up in Barcelona and winner of the French Open. The worlds leading clay nation Spain will also have the Dubai finalist Feliciano Lopez, Alberto Martin and Rafael Nadal

We are very glad to welcome back Nadal who became very popular here last year. In March he beat the world number 1 Federer, but the big breakthrough was held back because of injury. He is on court again just before Båstad and will be highly dangerous this year, says Thomas Wallén.

Memphis winner Joachim Johansson, Marseille-finalist Robin Söderling, Jonas Björkman and Thomas Johansson who will get a Wild Card to fly the blue and gold colours.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Yes, this is the first time he has played in Båstad actually and usually plays in Gstaad. I told him actually he should play there, I didn't think he would take it up seriously. Well he is good friends with Zabaleta who won last year and he enjoyed the tournament, it's a great venue on the beach with great scenery in more ways than one.

FB, will be there, but I won't unfortunately. I will be watching the Euro 2004.

Re: Gaston i Båstad, kom igen Gato ( Swedish Open thread)

Now, with Gaston pulling out of Wimbledon and getting some rest which is a good thing.

He'll be ready to make his debut in Båstad, and I think the Swedish fans will appreciate him.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

I wish he'll get to later rounds. I remembered I had coverage last year in US from FSW for Final (at least). The site is very beautiful.

Too bad Younes won't be there this year, but this is probably the highest quality field they have ever had.

It will be tough for Gaston for sure, I mean look at this 8 title winners this year, plus Calleri and Zabaleta (if fit) and the comeback of Nadal

Gaston Gaudio- French Open champion
Carlos Moya- winner of 3 titles including Rome
Dominik Hrbaty- Number 8 on the champions race with 3 titles
Fernando Gonzalez- Vina Del Mar winner
Tommy Robredo - Barcelona winner
Fernando Verdasco- Valencia winner
Fillipo Volandri- St Pölten
Nikolay Davydenko - Munich

It's a great venue on the water on the west coast of Sweden. Quite a few players have summer cottages there and the town is absolutely packed during the week.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

What's wrong with Zabaleta recently?

I didn't notice there are so many title winners this year

Zabaleta has tendonitis in his knee and has withdrawn from Wimbledon and Calleri looks like he might withdraw from Wimby as well.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".
