I think if I remember correctly he retired due to injury.
Yes he did retire from injury.
Here's an article on it - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/1318268.stm
Berasategui retires aged 27
Spain's Alberto Berasategui has announced his retirement from professional tennis at the age of just 27.
The clay court specialist and former world number seven won $4.6m over his 10-year career, reaching the 1994 French Open final and winning 14 singles and doubles titles.
The decision comes after a wild card entry at Barcelona last month resulted in a first round defeat.
Berasategui bowed to the inevitable after repetitive injuries kept him from training and a string of young Spanish stars entered the professional circuit
DiscoCowboy, I definitely do remember that match he played against Andre at the Australian. It was a night match because it was on live here in the morning and he came back from 2 sets down. It was a brilliant fightback and toally unexpected. Glad to hear he is happy these days. He certainly had a lot to be proud of in his career as he was a small guy in tennis terms and he had that exaggerated grip but he really made the most of himself, especially in 1994.
