About Jan Kodes...

I just noticed recently that Jan Kodes won 3 slam titles (2RG and a W! I can only think of 3 or so players who won those 2, and most have about 10 slams), but only 8 titles total. Anyone know if there is some sort of story behind that? Did he not enter a lot of tournaments besides slams, just perform best when it mattered, get lucky, or something else? Just curious.

There is no story behind that. He was very useful player, who preferred to play Davis Cup against some small rubbish tournaments and exhibitions. Because of Russian invasion to Czechoslovakia, the possibility of travelling out was limited, so he entered just some tournaments (never did play in Australia except Davis Cup). He beat five Wimbledon winners - Santana, Laver, Newcombe, Ashe and Borg. He was invited to the Hall of Fame in 1985?? (there you can read all his story).
