Las Vegas - Howard Hughes Open 1969 & 1970

I keep carrying on my research for great "forgotten" tournaments of the past, not mentioned on the ATP website.

The Howard Hughes Open is also considered by some as an equivalent to present-day ATP 1000, and one of the finest performance by Pancho Gonzales in the Open Era (the 1969 edition).

It was held between October 6th and 12th 1969 and May 12th and 17th 1970.

Again I would like to know who were the players beaten in the SF for both editions and doubles winners if there were any.

1969 Final: Pancho Gonzales defeated Arthur Ashe 6-0 6-2 6-4
1970 Final: Pancho Gonzales defeated Rod Laver 6-1 7-5 5-7 6-3

I know that Pancho beat Newcombe and Smith the 1969 edition but don't know at which round.

Great.

No idea about the doubles from 1969, either? But, never mind, I'm already very happy with that info. Thank you.

Don't know why but I was sure Smith was the semi-finalist.

There was only an "exhibition" doubles scheduled the day after the finals in 1969.

In 1970 semis: Gonzales def. Tony Roche 6-3,6-3,6-4 and Laver def. Roy Emerson 6-3,3-6,6-2,3-6,6-3.
