Do the French use "traduire" or something else? I know that's the literal "translation" (all puns intended) but my teacher (years ago) told us...there are other variations.

For example, it's much more common here in the US to say "Excuse me" which would technically translate to "excusez-moi" but we were told to use the more (British) version of "pardonnez-moi" as it is the correct one. Both (excuse me, pardon me) are perfectly acceptable to English speakers in either's just a question of what is more common in the locale.

Are there other such differences that you know of?
