Rising star hits injury setback

By Jonathan Overend
BBC tennis reporter

Britain's brightest junior prospect, Andrew Murray, could be out of tennis for three months with knee trouble.

The 16-year-old, who is set to start 2004 at number two in the world junior rankings, has a rare condition in his right knee causing inflammation.

Murray will miss the Australian Open junior event, a tournament he was one of the favourites to win.

The teenager, who won the Canadian Open junior event at the start of 2003, is said to be "gutted".

Murray also reached the quarter-finals of the US Open juniors and, at senior level, won his first futures event in Glasgow.

Three weeks ago, a scan revealed no ligament or cartilige damage, but he has been told by a consultant that he should rest for eight to twelve weeks to avoid further damage.

British number one Anne Keothavong is set to continue working with American-based coach Rafael Font de Mora as she tries to qualify for the Australian Open.
Keothavong, 177th in the women's world rankings, left for the southern hemisphere on Boxing Day and hopes to play in Auckland and Hobart before the first Grand Slam of the year
