Monte Carlo QF predictions: What's everyone thinking?

In the first quarter Ferrer and Djokovic are the two who could face Federer but I think consistent strength of shot will see Djokovic through and Federer isn't losing to qualifiers or Youzhny/Moya unless he picks up an injury.

The second quarter is more open with less consistent players who may or may not have a good tournament. I see Chucho making a possible upset against Gonzo and then reaching the QF's through a section without a huge name but with many pretty good clay players. Gasquet has a phenomenal draw and has to be expected to take advantage. If he doesn't it will be a big waste of a chance for him because an SF spot seems like it is extremely possible.

A potential Robredo - Almagro clash may be the best of the third round matches for pure clay tennis. Almagro is in the final of Valencia and may be slightly tired especially if he is oushed by Berdych who is a totally unknown entity. He could be eay prey or an impossible task. Anyway, I see Robredo taking that QF spot. His opponent should be Kolya and despite his terrible form I still see him getting through an easy draw.

The final quarter will surely have Nadal for whom no draw is tough. His opponent will be the winner of Murray - Nalbandian which wouldn't be a sure thing in most sections but both should cruise through to the 3rd round. I'm picking Nalbandian to take that one.

Quarter Finals:

Roger Federer vs. Novak Djokovic
Jose Acasuso vs. Richard Gasquet

Tommy Robredo vs. Nikolay Davydenko
David Nalbandian vs Rafael Nadal

Re: Monte Carlo QF predictions: What's everyone thinking?

Federer v Djokovic
Volandri v Verdasco
Berdych v qualifier
Nalbandian v Nadal

The 2nd quarter is the hardest to predict with so many volatile players like Gonzalez, Acasuso, Volandri, Verdasco and Ferrero (who may or may not be sick). I reckon we'll be seeing two unexpected QF appearances from this section.

In the 3rd quarter, I can see Berdych knocking out Almagro for some reason. I also think Davydenko, even though he has an easy draw, will make his usual early exit from this event and allow someone random to advance.

I reckon Nalbandian will come alive for this tourny and take advantage of his section. I don't see anyone upsetting Fed, Rafa or Nole.

The second quarter is a good chance for a player to pick up some SF points because clearly there is no big favourite. Gonzalez actually does have a chance to defend his SF points if he plays a great tournament. If Gasquet does have a good tournament, he has shown he is capable of doing so in MC, then he will get a good points boost. In fact, he has 45 points to defend in all 3 clay AMS events + RG. Even an average performance such as a QF, two third rounds and a fourth round would probably see him jump into a position vying for top 10.

In my opinion :
Federer - Nole/Ferer but i think Nole has more chance, so could be
Federer-Djokovic
very difficult for this quater, but my six sense go for
Andreev - Stepanek
Next also difficult but from latest form, I think
Almagro - Davydenko
The last quarter is quite easy, but Nalby can makes me lose face
Nalbandian - Nadal

Knowing Nalbandian's unpredictability and the fact that just about everyone has him slotted into a quarterfinal berth is probably the kiss of death for him

Im surprised so many people are writing off Safin (who we all know can win or lose to anyone on any given day) and predicting Big Dave to have a solid result. Although, David's draw makes Casablanca look like a slam , and Marat has that Nadal guy in his R16 match, I hear he is pretty good on the red stuff.
