Srichaphan plans to skip the clay court season to rest injured wrist

bad news for Paradorn, hopefully he can avoid surgery

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2007...t_30030036.php

Quote:
Stubborn Paradorn Srichaphan had no choice but to abandon his clay court season and rest his injured right wrist as he retired from the first round match of the US$6.9 million Sony Ericsson Open in Miami on Wednesday.

Trailing Luis Horna of Peru 5-2 in the first set, Paradorn was far from posing a challenge to the 70th ranked opponent and decided to call it a day. Though not fully recovered from the nagging tendonitis, the former world No 9 made the trip to the USA and paid the price for his obstinacy.

According to his father and mentor, Chanachai, it is time for the Thai star to take a break from the circuit and rest his injured hand. Paradorn will cancel all his clay court tournaments in the hope that he will be fit in time for the French Open at the Roland Garros in late May.

Paradorn has been advised by a doctor in Miami to wear a plaster cast for two weeks and surgery may not be required if the condition improves within that time. However, Chanachai said an operation by an expert in Germany could be an option if there was no progress.

"After two weeks we will consult the surgeon in Germany if an operation is needed. But an operation will be our last choice as we are concerned that he might not be the same player when he returns to the court. Nicholas Kiefer [former world No 3] is a fine example. He is not completely cured despite undergoing three operations," said Chanachai.

Makes sense, although he was hardly going to set the world alight on clay anyway. Shame for him though - he should listen to himself when he says he will wait until it is fully healed. He said it - then he didn't do it.

Re: Srichaphan plans to skip the clay court season to rest injured wrist

It's the same old thing really...if you have an injury, it is best to rest it rather than aggravate it...which is why I really don't understand Dima's decision to keep playing (Don't mention $$$$).

Good luck P'dorn...hope the break works.

As Scoobs said, it isn't as if he was going to make much ground in the rankings with his results on clay. He needs to be fit for June onwards. Why even come back for the French Open? He could just play Surbiton and have an exta week of grass practice

I wouldn't be surprised if Kiefer did the same.

There's slight hope that he'll try to play at http://www.xlcapitalbermudaopen.bm/news.html
But I wouldn't hold my breath.

Its a good time for him to sit out. It isn't like he could do anything on clay anyway.
