Why is Nalbandian's serve so poor?

In essence, he's hitting two second serves.

Why is Federer the best player in the world?

Yeah, his serve is not that bad. He just doesn't really go for it.

It's fact that Nalbandian's serve is crap. Don't bother trying to contradict.

Anyone with insight on how his technique could be altered for improvement?

Re: Why is Nalbandian's serve so poor?

His serve isn't poor, he just doesn't use it efficiently e.g for angles to win points, he usually just gets it in to start a rally. The only part of his serve you could probably say is poor is the power he generates.

Re: Why is Nalbandian's serve so poor?

Nalbandian's placement on the serve is generally impeccable which in some ways makes up for a lack of power, though an improved serve, i.e one with more power, could be the key to stepping us his game to a grand-slam winning level.
But I suppose we may never know..

And to answer the question...maybe because he's Argentinian? Lol. Players brought up on claycourts generally have weaker serves, just look at the king of clay's serve..Rafa's, consistent yet toothless.

Acasuso is the exception.

In argentina and many other traditionalist claycourt countries, the ultimate thing that coaches teach when you're starting to play tennis is the serve... maybe is the explanation of how the technique of many of them is very poor.

A post that deserves to be on MTF Hall of Fame soon:

Re: Why is Nalbandian's serve so poor?

Except for Acasuso, the older Argie players all have an awful serve. Their technique is even kinda alike, and very bad: see Zabaleta, Berlocq for instance.

Re: Why is Nalbandian's serve so poor?

Zabaleta alot of the time could hit plenty aces, I wouldnt say he had a poor serve at all. I'd have to agree, I think Nalbandians serve is pretty poor, why??? I dont know. I reckon that he focuses on the rest of his game alot more than his serve,

His serve technique was bad. The habit of holding the racket up to start the movement and all... Puerta serves like that too.

Re: Why is Nalbandian's serve so poor?

Calleri's serve isn't bad at all and Zabaleta's serve while not the best looking one is effective.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Why is Nalbandian's serve so poor?

Agassi served like that in wimbledon 1993 if I recall correctly because of some injury he had had.

I miss: Ivan Lendl, Korda, Novak, Bruguera, Rios, Kucera, Courier, Mantilla, Costa, Santoro and Ferreira.

Good luck to:

Gaudio, Murray, Florian Mayer, Chela, Nalbandian, Radek Stepanek, Volandri, Youzhny and Verdasco.
