Roger is two First Round Exits from losing Number 1

I have been wondering this, but Roger is not that safe when it comes to rankings these days. He is basically two-three first round exits away from losing his No. 1 ranking, given that Nadal wins those tournaments. So, if Roger loses at RG and WM in the first round, Nadal can catch him. Am I right?

Assuming WM means wimbledon, then no.

if you took off 995 points from wimbledon and 695 points from RG....I'm too lazy to do the math. He'd have to lose a lot more than twice.

Yes, but then, that's always been the case. If he lost all his points at RG, Wimbledon and a couple of other tournaments, especially ones Nadal is not defending a lot at, if Nadal won them, he'd catch and overtake Roger. Trouble is, Nadal is defending a lot at RG and Wimbledon so it doesn't really apply until later in the year anyway.

And that doesn't mean it's very likely to happen now anyway, does it.

You want to apply to the ArseClownContest, I gather?

And this is coming from a Rafa-fan, no less. Just to set things right.

You are quite the cheeky little thing with your torrent of threads and these odd hypotheticals.

Fed has a better chance of waking up tomorrow morning having spontaneously changed sexes, rather than losing three 1st round matches in a row.

Re: Roger is two First Round Exits from losing Number 1

I was just wondering. I mean Roger had 8400 at the end of last year. Now he has 7750 or something like that whereas Rafa has closed in to 4800 or something like that. I guess I was misreading the numbers but Nadal is definitely not that far away if Roger gets injured or something for a couple of months

Re: Roger is two First Round Exits from losing Number 1

The reality is, Nadal is much more likely to chip away at Roger's lead steadily over time than he is to dramatically surge past him as Rogi starts losing left, right and centre. It will be very hard for Nadal to get to #1 before next season, assuming Roger is fit enough to play a full season - and that's assuming Roger goes through some sort of slump in form. He's still much more consistent than Rafa right now - Indian Wells is one event, not necessarily a signpost to the future. We'll have to see.

Roger will lose his world number one after next year's French open. (If Nadal bags up atleast 4 TMS titles this year and wins back to FO. also with finish USO with QF or better.) Nadal will be new world no 1 one day for sure.
Ivanisevic stayed as world no two for many years without winning a major.(He won Wimby as a WC as he was ranked way low.) I don't see why Nadal can't be no 1.

Re: Roger is two First Round Exits from losing Number 1

I think Nadal is gradually missing his chance to become #1. I mean Murray, Berdych, and Djokovic are getting better fast and it won't be easy for Nadal to beat these guys next year.

If Nadal wins Miami, Monte Carlo, Rome, Hamburg, RG, and Wimbledon, he gains 1300 points. If Federer loses first round at RG and Wimbledon but defends his other points (except for losing to Nadal in the final at Miami), he loses 1850 points. That, I believe, would just do it.

Good luck finding those WMDs!

Re: Roger is two First Round Exits from losing Number 1

It's quite obvious - should Roger loose everything, OF COURSE Rafa will be #1. Roger himself said so many times before - even if some over here think he was just being 'politically correct' when he made those comments - the point rankings made it obviously clear.

Fact is, Roger knows this himself pretty well. I'm sure he'll find the appropriate measures against this happening in reality.
