Players With Better Backhands than Forehands

Which players have a much better backhand than forehand besides Gonzo and Moya of course.

The players I am going to list are the ones who I think their backhands are better and more of a weapon than their forehands. Any others I have left off feel free to add to the list.

Calleri
Gaudio
Björkman
Nalbandian
Henman
Mantilla
Pavel
Safin
Costa
Arazi
Guga ( on slower surfaces)

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

What about Coria?

Fish definately has a better backhand than forehand, as well as Burgsmuller.

Edberg deserves a mention - one of the best backhands of all time and a awful forehand

Re: Players With Better Backhands than Forehands

I think there are many pleyers who have a great backhand and a mediocre forehand.

But players with better backhands than forehands are not common.

An example would be clay courters Carlos Costa (retired) or Gaudio nowdays for whom the forehand is just a rally shot, and they hit deep angles and winners with the backhand.

Kafelnikov, even if he had a great backhand, he would hit most of his winners with his forehand.

I miss: Ivan Lendl, Korda, Novak, Bruguera, Rios, Kucera, Courier, Mantilla, Costa, Santoro and Ferreira.

Good luck to:

Gaudio, Murray, Florian Mayer, Chela, Nalbandian, Radek Stepanek, Volandri, Youzhny and Verdasco.

Lurker, Mr Carlos Costa I remember him vividly the summer of 92 was the big one for him.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Players With Better Backhands than Forehands

They've pretty much all been covered, although I would suggest that Malisse's forehand is a bigger and better shot than his backhand. Clement and Haas are another two with better backhands, as well as Spadea. I think Ljubicic's backhand is a bit better than the forehand too. Erm... Blake, anybody?

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

Malisse's forehand is very much superior to his backhand.
