Fed and Nadal are 2 of the best things to have happened to tennis.

I guess I'm a bit cynical, but I wonder if he really means that or if he's just playing a bit of psy-ops prior to the tournamant, knowing Nadal has not been at his best lately and has to defend his title - kinda suggesting Nadal has something to live up to.

No, I just think he is being realistic. regardless of what people say Rafa is still the only real threat to Fed. And unfortunately for tennis that means he is the only person who has a real shot at being number 1. He has said that before when people have asked him, out of the new generation of youngsters who has the best change of challenging him, he couldn't have spit out the name Rafa faster and that is the truth. If these other players want the respect, they don't have to beat him but they will have to start to at least challenge him. That's why Rafa gets his respect. And I don't really blame him, If I were him I wouldn't respect them either. Not saying he doesn't respect them as people, but I don't think he takes any of them very serious as being any sort of threat to him

Nothing new. Federer said something like this a few years ago. The thread must be somewhere here on GM and maybe Shotgun can merge the threads.

Arrogant? Wrong word to describe Federer.

Self-assured is more like it.

Oooh, this thread is turning into a "Fed is arrogant" thread.

How exciting. We have never had one of those before.

Because he is so arrogant for praising Rafa. Now if he would have said something along the lines of "I will be #1 until I am 40 years old, Rafa hasn't got a snowball's chance in hell of becoming #1" then that would come accross as humble and respectful, no?

Re: Fed tips Nadal to take over from him as No. 1

Obvious choice. Nadal blows all the other young guns out of the water with his talent and mental toughness.

Wimbledon Upsets:
Safin def. Djokovic 6-4, 7-6, 6-2
Schuettler def. Blake 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4
Kudryavtseva def. Sharapova 6-2, 6-4
Tipsarevic def. Roddick 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, 7-6
Dancevic def. Nalbandian 6-4, 6-2, 6-4
Zheng def. Ivanovic 6-1, 6-4
Tanasugarn def. Jankovic 6-3, 6-2
Radwanska def. Kuznetsova 6-4, 1-6, 7-5
