Can Hewitt or Roddick join COMEBACK slam KINGS [Becker,Agassi,Ashe,Connors...]#``#???

...
A quick glance at some of the comeback kings at Slams [ie.long gap between Slam wins] yields some surprising leaders

1. Arthur Ashe ~ 5-years & 8-months [1970 AO -> 1975 USO]

2. Boris Becker ~ 5-years [1991 AO -> 1996 AO]

3. Andre Agassi ~ 4years & 4 months [1995 AO -> 1999 FO]

3. Marat Safin ~ 4-years & 4 months [2000 USO -> 2005 AO]

5. Jimmy Connors ~ 3-years & 10-months [1978 USO -> 1982 Wimby]

6. Gustavo Kuerten ~ 3-years [1997 FO -> 2000 FO]

7. Boris Becker ~ 3-years [1986 Wimby -> 1989 Wimby]

8. Pete Sampras ~ 2-years & 10-months [1990 USO -> 1993 Wimby]

9. Mats Wilander ~ 2-years & 8-months [1985 FO -> 1988 AO]

9. Yvgeny Kafelnikov ~ 2-years & 8-months [1996 FO -> 1999 AO]

....~~> Kind of cool that both Becker made this list twice

%%*.NOTE, ~If Michael Chang had been able to win any of his last 3-Slam finals [1995 FO, 1996 AO & 1996 USO] ~then he would have clearly held the record for longest gap between Slam wins [as his one & only Slam victory came at the 1989 FO]..

...
This raises some questions about the current stars of the game:

*Sure Federer is dominant now, but assuming he has a few dry years without winning Slams would he be able to come back in the same manner that Becker, Agassi & Connors managed

*Hewitt`s last Slam win was at Wimby 2002~> nearly 5-years ago, can he comeback to win another one

*Roddick`s last Slam win was at USO 2003~> closing in on 4-years ago, can he comeback to win again

*Nadal is only 20yrs old but he seems to be slumping recently, if he fails to defend FO this year is he likely to comeback a few years latter as a champion again

How about Kafelnikov from the 1996 Roland Garros to 1999 Australian Open?

If you count preOpen Era, Laver has quite a good comeback after his drought 1963-68.

I don't like hypocrites, but even worse are the ones who think it's OK to be an asshole as long as you are not hypocritical.

For the rest nice stats Interesting!

Marat Safin
Rafael Nadal
David Nalbandian
Roger Federer

"Watching Marat Safin play tennis is like riding
a roller coaster in the dark: it's much more fun
because you don't know what is going to happen next."

"And I always, after the first set, play better, better and better."
-- David Nalbandian after the 6-7 6-1 6-0 win over Tomas Berdych at the NASDAQ-100 Open.

"With all the injury problems we have in men's tennis at the moment, I'm happy to still be standing."
-- Roger Federer entering the Australian Open.

I doubt Hewitt will win another GS, Roddick has a better chance.

No

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Yeah Roddick`s been a bit unlucky drawing FED in big matches recently
...
With a bit of luck Roddick might have won USO 06 & AO 07
...
...
A few years back i was sure that Hewitt was going to win another Slam~> especially when he made the finals at USO 04 & AO 05, unfortunately since then there hasn`t been much positive going his way [apart from marriage to a drama actress barbie lookalike & the birth of his cute daughter]

Although i hate to admit it I have to agree unless Hewitt drasticly changes his game he will not win another Grand Slam his game has become old and outdated. Roddick on the other hand is changing his game to adapt with the times he volleys a lot more now and is really evolving as a player. Roddick, Hewitt and Federer seem like they have been around forever but Hewitt (the oldest) is only 26, Federer is 25 and Roddick is 24, Unbeleivable at their age espically Hewitt he really began the baseline era IMO, although Agassi was a baseliner when Hewitt came to presence there became a surge of baseliners. I relate Nadal to Hewitt in a way in the way that Nadal has already acheived so much at a young age and just fizzled out.

If Federer gets injured at Wimby/USO Roddick maaaayyybe lucky. But I doubt Fed will miss a slam anytime soon, and in a few years I'd pick the young-guns over Roddick. So I guess no, I don't expect any of them to make a comeback.
