Baggy bags out of Rotterdam

I dont get it-he is still playing in open 13 today, but says he is too injured to play in rotterdam? Does the ATP let you do that? seems to me that if you are well enough to play and continue playing in one event you are well enough for another. Maybe baggy should have thought of another excuse

that really is stupid and should not be allowed. it happens in the wta as well. last week petrova pulled out the of the doubles semi-final and went on to play and win the singles final

Re: Baggy bags out of Rotterdam

Very, very interesting, indeed...

I happen know there's recently been quite some bickering between Richard Krajicek ('s Lawyers) and Baggy ('s Lawyers) about Baggy's appearance at that tournament, resulting in what one might call a classical 'Gentlemen's Agreement' for Baggy to recieve a wildcard to the tournament - but it was pretty obvious his heart wasn't really into it... Just MHO, correct me if I'm wrong, here.

I guess it's simple: if Baggy's *really* injured, his is no blame, and all will be settled as it should - 'shit happens', no hard feelings, mate!
But if he isn't, I guess the Mutual Lawyer Departments will be earning a lot of money soon...

Am I still here? As one, with The Fear?
Am I still alive? I'm still f*cking ... Here...!"

Not the same thing mate.

Baggy shouldn't be allowed to do that.

He should have waited until the very last moment, and claimed that his dog stole all his racquets.

Re: Baggy bags out of Rotterdam

Too bad, he could use more consistent results before the Masters events.

I am a fan of Federer, Gasquet, Baghdatis, the long-deceased Safin, Youzhny, Nalbandian, Rochus, Tsonga, the sadly-departed Santoro, and good, hearty, competitive tennis matches. The quality of my life does not rest solely on who wins these matches. In fact, I would even go as far as to say that I can live quite happily after a player I like chokes, mugs, bashes, or otherwise succumbs to a loss.

Re: Baggy bags out of Rotterdam

I know it doesn't seem nice but maybe he needs to be careful with his wrist and not aggravate the injury by playing in another tournament next week. Obviously it is not serious enough for him to stop playing in Marseille especially since he has a good chance to win the title.

Additionally giving another player the opportunity to participate (and get ready for it, not find out on Monday morning) is better than him withdrawing at the last moment or tanking his 1st round match because he committed to the tournament.

Re: Baggy bags out of Rotterdam

Baghdatis never entered Rotterdam. Wild cards aren't official until the time of the draw. Rejecting one [before the draw is made] may not endear a player to the tournament, but there's no rule preventing it.

Re: Baggy bags out of Rotterdam

Marcos had a WC for Rotterdam, which he eventually turned down. Now one more Dutch guy can play in the main draw. Yes, the excuse of being injured was silly, but I don't see what the big deal here is. It's not like he was the only star that was supposed to play in Rotterdam, the field is still very strong.

It's good that he cancelled before the draw was made, so that the WC could be given to another player. Verkerk should be a happy man.

I already hinted to this. Lots of Legal Bickering going on. And will continue to go on, I gather...

Re: Baggy bags out of Rotterdam

You all are making a big deal out of nothing. Given that he won Zagreb & made final wkend in France, he is far better served resting up til IW. No one gets hurt. Richard the K saves some appearance bucks probably & a deserving player gets the WC...so...

Re: Baggy bags out of Rotterdam

Baggy signed a two year contract with Rotterdam, so his first mistake was to not sign in. thats wrong and he accepted the wildcard with some pressure I guess, then saying that you are injuried and winning two long 3sets matches is a bit silly yeay. But now 3 Dutchguys in the main draw also nice. But I really wanted to seed Baggy
