Re: Useless Tennis Trivia

Was there ever a player with wins over every player in his current top ten, yet he has not yet reached the top 10?

It's not Eltingh or Hrbaty.

I'm thinking, but I know that Santoro has lost to Roddick but beaten Federer, Moya, Nalbandian, Coria and Henman:

Upon further glance,
Santoro has beaten everyone in the current top 10 except Andy Roddick.

Re: Useless Tennis Trivia

Three player-related questions:

1. Which South American player had his only GS match wins of the year at Wimbledon?

2. Who was the only player apart from Hewitt and Roddick not to drop a set en route to the second week of this year's US Open?

3. Who are the only two active players to have reached the second week of every Slam without reaching a Slam final (I could well have overlooked someone here, so it'll be interesting to see the replies)?

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

Yes, I thought most of them were a little too easy... keep working on that second player.

The Dominator, on the lush lawns of Wimbledon? Nope.

Re: Useless Tennis Trivia

Ah-ha! I knew there was someone I'd forgotten about - and it was Bjorkman. Yep, Henman and Escude were the two I was thinking of. Hmm... now what is it that those three players have in common? No wonder serve-volley is a dying art in the modern game.

As you would expect, Escude had a pretty soft draw to get to the 4th round at RG this year, although God knows how Youzhny, a man who had beaten Pavel in five sets in the previous round and whose first career title was won by defeating Canas on clay in a five-setter, managed to go down to him in the R32. He seemed to look fairly bemused at the result himself when shaking hands with Escude at the net.

Re: Useless Tennis Trivia

Nah. Some time last year I tried to introduce ATP discussion into an interminable bitch-fest of a thread on WTAHell, and it was not received kindly by that board's appointed guardians. I suppose if I'm going to remain a member of the site I'd better post on it more than twice a year...

Re: Useless Tennis Trivia

Just don't start a thread about women's tennis... and you'll be fine.
