# 1 in singles and doubles

Kafelnikov was the last player to be ranked # 1 in both singles and doubles at the same time. Will we ever see this happen again?

Sadly no. The era that saw Johnny Mac on the men's and Martina N on the women's is over.

I like a lot of players.

Re: # 1 in singles and doubles

I know this is probably not the most important comment, but Kafelnikov was never teh top doubles player. His top ranking was #4.

Peter Polansky
Nestor - Chvojka - Pospisil - Raonic - Peliwo

That Barry Mckay guy kept saying on day 1 on how Berdych beat federer in STRAIGHT SETS. I thought it was 7-5 in the 3rd ive im mistaken.

that guy is really annoying. Every 5 mins he would talk about his matches from when he played DC. Someone should tell him that no one gives a fu*k.

Re: # 1 in singles and doubles

Kafelnikov is the last guy to win the singles and doubles of the same Grand Slam - Roland Garros 1996.

Probably the last guy to be No.1 in singles and doubles is Edberg.

Serena Williams~ 2003 AO [won singles in final vs Venus & doubles in final with Venus]

Actually the Williams sisters managed it a couple of other times too but 2003 was the last time

The way men`s singles is these days it`s highly unlikely to happen again in the men`s ~ however if tennis rules change... either making singles less stressful on the body or makind doubles more lucrative then things may change

Re: # 1 in singles and doubles

Yeah, no way. The game is far too physically demanding now; a grand slam singles contender has no business playing doubles as well. Even back then the fatigue from doubles cost players some important matches.
