Ferrero def. Hajek 3-0, Ret.

Juan Carlos wins first match of the tournament! Wonder what happened...

lleyton hewitt - old stalwart still plugging away on tour
novak djokovic - righful #1, 5 GS and counting, and as always, leaving bad tastes in tracy austin's mouth
italian guys - forza azzurri, especially seppi and bolelli

all time favorites: juan carlos ferrero, michael chang and patrick rafter

NEVER say "i don't care who wins, i just want good tennis" you BETTER pick a side

Ferrero def. Hajek 3-0 ret.

Ironically enough, probably not what Ferrero was looking for to arrest his 6-match losing streak. Off the court in the space of about 15 minutes, hardly much of a substitute for a tough practice session.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

Well done Juanqui, making the opponent retire just by giving the evil eye to him. This is the tactic that's gonna get you to the top again

Berdych - Andreev - Acasuso - Mathieu - Tursunov - Gaudio - Simon

Vliegen * Malisse * Chela * Zabaleta * Gasquet * Calleri * Djokovic * Starace

Retired and not so active players¬

Stupid Hajek, why he didn't retire earlier and give the place to a LL??

Well, glad to see Juanqui got through a first round again... but I wouldn't call this a 'deserved win'.

Re: Ferrero def. Hajek 3-0 ret.

omg i went to this match an hour early so i could get a good seat, and the match lasted 10 mins. JC looked really good on court to be honest. He seemed to serve well, and his forehand was brilliant. I managed to take around 40 photos during that 10 mins, get his autograph, and I got a photo with it and it came really nice because JC looked happy to pose for the photo. That amongst other things today made my day
